Lothar Walthar update

AMMASHOOTA

Gary Gruber
A while back I posted the story of the exceedingly difficult transaction I had trying to obtain a Lothar-Walther barrel. Now that I have around 75 rounds downrange through my 404 Jeff, I am happy to say it is an excellent barrel, extremely accurate and cleans very easily.

Knowing what I do now, would I buy another one from them? Maybe...

there was a thread here about these barrels and how hard to machine they were. Not sure if it still exists. Congrats on getting a good barrel! That can sometimes be a challenge. .404 Jeffery huh? Ground squirrel rifle?

Machined very easily, even more so than my Kriegers.

CA ground squirrels are very nasty.. use enough gun...

Lothar makes their SS barrels out of some type of precipitating hardening stainless, similar to 15-5 or 17-4 Ph.

I find it VERY difficult to believe that it would machine easier than 416R.

I have chambered a couple of SS Lothar Barrels, and their machinability was challenging. I would recommend a carbine chambering reamer.

But, due to the material, they should have a good life expectancy.

Their Chrome Moly Barrels machine just like any other Chrome Moly Barrel.

Mine is CM, not stainless.

Yea the stainless ones are a bear. Then they call you an idiot cause youre not cutting threads and chambers at 10,000rpm.
