Looking for tips on three wire thread measuring

Yer proballly right Butch! Never can tell tho.

B Johnson.... See what yer doin here? This is another classic example of the person who says something, then is just itch'n to blow up when they get "insulted" cause someone says "the wrong thing".

You don't know me. I certainly don't know you. You have several times now made statements that indicate to me that you don't use thread mics, and I tend to think that the one above is another one. So, make sure you read all of this before you go blowing off your steam cause again, I don't know what you know.

I've been around threading for a little while. I can only say I am ignorant of the term you used (pitch line). Do you mean "Helix Angle"? Have you ever used a set of thread mics? Do you own a set?

See, if I go an start telling what these things look like, cause I don't think you've seen them, then yer gonna go get all pissed at me cause I'm 'insulting you'. However, it appears to me you are not familiar with their use. These are little gizmos that have all the geometry of threading already thought in. They work just like a set of regular mics, except they only work on threads. There is an incredible amount of geometry in both the anvils and the standards for them.

And of course, if you use them every day and already know all this, just ignore this post.

Heck, after all of this, dare I even mention Thread Triangles??

I have been doing this for a long time, and I find them to be handy little suckers.........jackie

NOOOOOO!!!!!!

That's too funny Jackie, I thought the same thing. I grabbed a set out of the cabinet today and was going to make mention, but I too was afraid of the mud-slingin that would ensue! Are yours attached to a flexible tether so they are easy to hold? I've got sets made near here by a local gage grinding company.

Hi Boyd,
Do you know a sex starved preacher, who is running for president? ;-)
Hi Butch,
Yes, we probably could sit, and talk about the best ways to do things in the shop.
Hi 4mesh,
It is a good thing to share your knowledge, and experiences, with others. That is the fuel of progress. Trying to force your
ideas, onto others, is the fuel of war, and revolution.
As one old man,(my current age) at Firestone, told a couple of guys, in our apprenticeship class, who were arguing about some petty thing;"This world, would be in one hell of a mess, if we, were all in love with the same woman."
Diann, and I, have been happily married for 38+years, by listening, and not being critical of each others feelings, and ways. It is not always easy, but the rewards, make the swallowing, worth the effort.
The nice part of the free exchange of ideas, and methods, is that, at this time, there is no value, to declare on your 1040!
I'll shut up now, before Boyd, thinks that I, am running for president, or getting ready to pass the plate.
Regards,
Bob

Well, I just finished copying all of the wire use tips into a Word document that is now saved on my computer. I included Greg's pictures from the previous thread. Thanks to everyone for your help. The next step will be to put one of my barrels in a barrel vise, and try each of the methods that were suggested to see which one is easiest for me.
