Well guys I guess this game is to rich for my blood................... :^(

Your laws must be a lot different down south but have you ever seen the size of trailers people pull now a days that are way overkill on the vehicles????? We travelled for years as a kid pulling a OLD HEAVY 16' travel trailer with a Ford F100 with 3 on the tree and a 6 cylinder. This truck made 2 or 3 trips through the rocky mountains as well as almost every weekend to various lakes. I am not a knowledgeable person when it comes to vehicles but I do know that truck never gave a lick of problem. I would hope that todays vehicles would be capable as well. What do I know.

I have no problem loading in the barns. I just figured I could load and have my own accomodations.

I do have issues though of being very anal with my equipment. I FEAR dust and dirt on my equipment.

So lets side step a bit.

I am going to PHOENIX in October and do not want to sit and load outside. That would just kill me. Yes a boy who grew up on the farm and hates dirt and dust. Does anyone have any tips or leads on where to buy a decent 10'X10' canopy that I can afix tarps to the sides to enclose it? Something that will last a few years.

Thanks for all your input.

Do what I did the last time I went to Phoenix. My friend and I rented a 29' box van from U-Haul in Anthem and drove it 9 miles to the range. We threw our gear and some cots in it and we had a loading trailer and motel room at a fraction of the cost. Everything stayed clean in the dusty wind and then it stayed dry when we got 2" of rain in a downpour that lasted most of the day.

If you still want a canopy, I just saw that Wally-world sells a few models. 10'x10' or 12'x12', walled, screened, or open.

I think I have it figured out. I will just leave it at that.

Lee I did not pull as big a boat as you but I certainly pulled my 16 foot LUND fishing boat MANY MANY miles and NEVER had a lick of trouble with my Second Ranger. It served me well until I decided it was either put money into it and fix the body that was starting to rust and the power train which was starting to burn oil.

I have a place to stay in Phoenix which will cost me some GOOD American Beef. I will buy a decent canopy tent states side and haye it mailed/shipped to the address I am staying at.

Thanks everyone for your time and to those that sent me e-mails.

I like you more and more everytime i read your stuff. it doesnt hurt that your a Lund man either!! I had a 16' Adventure sport and i loved that boat. Lund is the only fishing boat in my mind, and i wish i had the cash for an 18" Alaskan model. I cant do it all, and i love these rifles, so i will just have to settle for a yearly fishing trip to Canada. I will use Northern Walleye lodges Lund boat while i am there. 29 days and i am on my way back up north. I also used to duck hunt a lot and that Lund i had sure busted a lot of ice and hauled a lot of men/dogs. Man do i miss that boat!!
Sure seems to me, that everything i like, cost big money. Why is that!! LOL!!! Lee

Lee where do you do your Walleye trips? Ontario, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan? There actually is something in Saskatchewan besides the BALD FLAT PRAIRIE......

One of the terms we use for people from Saskatchewan is "GAPPERS" They are people from that GAP in between Manitoba and Alberta.

Well my boat is a Lund Pike with console. I wanted the Angler but felt that may be a bit much to pull out of some of the lakes I fish. At the time the Ranger was just a 2 wheel drive with 5 speed and Posi in the rear. It could go thru a lot. I figured with out 4x4 I could be asking for trouble. So I opted for the smaller boat. If I were to do it today, I would go for the bigger boat minus the console. The console and windshield is nice running the lake but a tiller is so much nicer when actually back trolling for Walleye.

If it were not for the Yamaha on the back which I am not fond of I may actually put it in the water. Has not been in the lake for about 5 years. The bottom end seals need redoing. I figure I will pass and get the motor I want. Mercury 60HP with fuel injection. Sell the 50 for parts.

and

if it were not for the BR rifles, I may fish more.

We go up north through Michigan into Ontario. Dog lake actually. Missanabie is the little town we park out trucks. We then cath a two hour pontoon boat ride up the lake to our camp. The amp is up in the middle of nothing, and i like that very much. The walleye are everywhere, and i plan on eating at least 20 pounds that week. Not to mention the yellow perch and lake trout. Big Lakers too!! BIG!!! A little small mouth fishing thrown in to stir it up a bit. I cant wait! 20 days and im gone!!
I to shoot to much to make having another boat worth my time, but maybe one day i wil buy that Lund Alaskan i have always wanted. Lee

Okay gents. I keep kicking ideas around for a trailer. I was going to do the peimar led lights old standard of a cargo trailer converted. I decided why not get a smaller travel trailer and if it is set up right I can remove say the kitchen table and make a solid bench. If it has a small bed with a bunk above you can still travel with 2 guys and live fairly comfortable.

I need some ideas of where to look around in the US.

I will be honest, a lot of people are hurting in the US and I am willing to spend my money states side. I need ideas of where to look, dealers, auction sites.

Oh and if you do not like my post, tell me to take a flying PH++K. It does not bother me where I spend my money but if I can put it into your economy I will.

Thanks in advance

Calvin

PS. I am figuring a 19-20' trailer would be more than enough.

If you have money to spend you can join hands with our company

I have a 6x12 double axle cargo trailer with a/c, extended tongue, 12 volt lights inside, a 120V kit with flourescent lights, insulation in the roof and a generator box on the front of it. With all of that stuff I paid about $4 grand for it new in 2008. I then put shelves on one side for storage and a work table along the length of the other side. Take it to matches and to the range when I practice and work up loads. Up to 3 guys have loaded in it at matches. Has been PD hunting 10 times now as well. I "think" the double axle makes a big difference in how the trailer rides and how much the stuff inside gets tumbled around.

Really saves a lot of effort packing when everrything you need is stored in the trailer and all you need to do is back up to it and go.

Got any pictures you could post?

Just sold the trailer you are describing. Mine was a Jayco 26BH. BH stands for bunk house and they are all laid out about the same. Jayco is made by forest River.

Contact some of the RV manufactures in No. Indiana, Elkhart and Lagrange counties to be exact. Google will be your friend in this endeavor. Many of them will accommodate custom building what ever you wish. Plus you will get up to date technology and materials.

Good Luck!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Jayco is NOT made by Forest River. I live in Middlebury, IN, Home of Jayco, The CEO of Jayco has a SIL that lives across the street from me. Jayco is a family owned company. I personnally knew the founding partners and today still know many members of the family.

INFO? Check here

On the other hand, Forest River was purchased by Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway.
