Lefty triggers, Need advice

Brownells is out of stock on the only left trigger they sell. I have not been able to find a lefty trigger for a predator build I'm working on. So I ordered a Rem trigger, and the Jard trigger and sear parts to put into it.

Any tips or advice on the Jard parts. The only experience I have with jard triggers was a rt hand 700 complete trigger, and I was not impressed.

By the way, It's a hunting rifle and the factory Rem is just not adjusting down well.

Or am I missing somthing better out there?

Time line-rifle needs to ship in 8 days.
Thanks, Jim

I have installed a couple of Jard trigger kits... 14 ounce ones.

I had to work it a bit to get the creep out.. maybe in the heavier 24 ounce it would have been better.

You can work the 700 trigger quite easily. Usually with just very lightly buffing very briefly the sears on a soft worn 400 grit wheel and then very lightly on a balck wheel. All you are doing is removing the slightest burr at the edge of the sears.

Then I replace the trigger return spring with a lighter spring and adjust the sear engagement as well. I can get a safe 2.5 pounds with no trouble usually and sometimes less than 2 pounds if you like them that light for hunting... timing the bolt with the trigger makes it easier to have a safe light trigger too.

thanks Dennis, I put the Jard parts in today but the package did not include the 28 oz spring as advertised. I cut a piece of spring stock just to try out the trigger, and it worked reasonably well. I called Jard and they are mailing the correct spring with no charge.

Jim, call Jewell Triggers in San Marcos, TX. I ordered triggers from them last week and received them today. You can get a HVR trigger with top left safety without the bolt release to fit the left handed Predator action. One of the triggers I received today is going out tomorrow installed on a Stiller Tac 30 action.

May I ask "where can I purchase a lighter return spring"?

I make them out of a light coil spring kit from Brownells...a tube full of long coil springs... I just cut a length and carefully bring the ends in a bit with pliers.

Thanks Mike, that is good to know. I was not aware they were making a lefty.

MSC has lots of springs, some are the exact diameter and coil spacing as the Remington triggers. They have them in .016, .020 and maybe .012 wire size but I'm not sure of the last one. The .012 springs that I have (maybe from another source) are not really a good choice, they do not have enough pressure to overcome some of the friction forces in the mechanism. At least, that was my feeling when I played with them a bit.
The .016 and .020 can do wonders but you need to do other things such as deburr the housing, burnish the holes with moly Z, simple things that reduce friction. Proceed with caution.
This is not something to be attempted by a beginner. It is very easy to create an unsafe trigger and firearm.
