Has anyone else noticed the slip in quality control in new lapua brass. Was making some new 30br brass this am, and found 3 out of 15 that the rimd were to thick to slip into an rcbs shell holder. Just wondering.

The quality of Lapua brass is so good I would be hesitant to think there was anything wrong with the brass when faced with a problem like you described. The problem is likely your shell holder.

Most of us have a set of jewelers files. Take the flat file and lightly deburr the inside of the shell holder surfaces. If that doesn't solve the problem try switching to another holder. Sometimes one is just a little too tight. :p

If 12 of them worked and 3 didn't, its not the shellholder. Lapua brass is good, but sometimes slip ups occur during processing and doesn't get catched. There have been issues on and off at different times with Lapua brass. You can call Kevin Thomas at Lapua, and he will take care of it. I've had a few issues myself and it was resolved after I sent some cases back to them.

Gentlemen thanks for your responses. I guess it surprised me as its the first time in several years that I have had an issue with lapua brass because it is of such hi quality. What surprised me was that the rim measured 4 thousands thicker than the normal.

The brass and the shell holder were manufactured to a set of specific tolerances. You may have a shell holder that's under minimum size and never knew It because you never had brass that was at the maximum. Of course the opposite could also be true. ' Why not get hold of a few shell holders, some older proven brass and the suspect brass and measure away. If you do, please post your findings so we can all learn.

I ran into this several years back....juggled a few shell holders and all was good. Lee shell holders seem to work with everything. -Al

I just blew out, (formed), and neck turned 100 brand new 6BR cases to 30BR, these were straight from Hoehn Supply. No problems.

I have had the same problem with the blue box Lapua . I never had any problems with the gold box Lapua.
