Jerry,

IIRC, you are a bass fisherman. Have you ever fished Lake Tellico there in Tennessee?

Justin

Nope. I've been on it a few times on a jet ski from Turkey Creek in Ft Loudun where my daughter lives. Tellico and Ft Loudin meet just at a navigation lock.

I hope to be on Cherokee tomorrow..supposed to be 75F.

Jerry,

You know anything about the bass fishing on Tellico? My wife and I are avid bass fisherman, and are getting close to kicking the work habit. We think we want to live on a lake, and Tellico has some good looking areas...specifically the Rarity Bay area (golf is another stupid and expensive habit I have). Golf out the front door, bass fishing out the back. Perfect. Only made better by a good pizza parlor and liquor store close by.

If you know of anywhere else in your home state I need to look at, I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Justin

I live in the upper end of the TVA lake chain. Many of these lakes are partially surrounded by National Forests. My most local lake is Boone which, now, is down about 30 feet while they are repairing a leak.
Boone will be down for another 5-7 years due to the leak.

There are always nice places for sale on some of the lakeshores.

We have several good golf courses in this 4 county region that are within 15-25 minutes of the lakes. Some course are members/club owned and are kind-of expensive, like The Farm, about $50,000/year. But several are municipals and operate on daily fees, and a really good local course on Warriors Path Tennessee State Park which encloses the Warriors Path Park. Nice marina and 3 boat ramps.

There are a couple of nice houses for sale on Warriors in the $250,000 range. One of these now for sale you could drive your cart from your boat dock to the golf course.

We have 4 nice gun clubs within a 10-25 minute drive.
I'll PM you my cell #.

Boone lake?

My cousin sold a bunch of lots on Boone back years ago. I wish I had been old enough to get in on those, but they were long gone by the time I was old enough to care. This was near Johnson City, other side of the bridge from Rocky Mount.

Justin, have you made any further retirement plans? Just wondering.

.

Jerry,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but, ironically, I've spent the past week or so organizing my wife's retirement party, hosting family members for the event, etc. We had it last night, and it went off without a hitch. A good time was had by all.

We just ordered a brand new, F350 dually diesel, and are on the hunt for a fifth wheel. Our plan is when I retire (511 days to go), we're going to load-up and hit the road, looking for areas we like. If we find something, we're going to live there a while in the fifth wheel and make sure the "newness" doesn't wear off. If we still like it, we'll either sell the house here in Cali, or rent or Air B&B it. Haven't decided. What we have decided is that we have to get-the-hell out of California. This place is going absolutely bat-sh!t crazy...

I have a friend who is doing some recon work as we speak, specifically at Watts Bar Lake in your home state. I'm waiting for a report back from him. I've found some potential areas on the lake I'd like to look at, especially by Tennessee National Golf Club. Watts Bar has some pretty good fishing, I hear.

Are you familiar with Watts Bar and the surrounding area?

Justin, I sent you a PM. As to Watts Bar my daughter lives about 20 miles up the road (I75) and I have fished Watts Bar some in the 1950's. Wilbur (forum CCBW) lives there.

As to golf courses, we have some 25 within 35 miles of where I live (Kingsport). I don't play golf, a one eyed guy can't hit a golf ball and I went blind in one eye about 1970. Good to great Bass fishing all through the "upper lakes" region of East Tennessee. (Watts Bar, Ft Loudin, Tellico, Cherokee, Norris, Boone, South Holston, etc.)

As to getting out of Kalliforny I understand. (Sorry, Pumpkin, no offence)!!

Small towns are not the best for older folks. Spring City is a great place to live for those that are younger but a little bit inconvenient for older folks with inevitable medical needs as it's an hour to either Chattanooga or Knoxville. All I'm saying here is to find a place to live, one that you like, as close to civilization as you can get. It would seem that east Tennessee would be a really great place for you to live....for anybody to live. Yes, I'm biased to a great extent....

511 days! Yikes!

Time to tune up for dove and show off the F350?

Bring on the F350 we have several. Most have "gooseneck" beds to pull stock trailers and hay trailers. We have a 32' hay trailer to deliver round bales.

Doves? The guvmint" killed Dove hunting here by putting the farmers out of the dairy business. For a few years after that I planted a 8 acre Sunflower field and would cut strips with a bushhog as the Fall seasons progressed. Been 2 years since I was at a Dove hunt!

Oh, BTW, I have some friends that are getting ready to sell a 700 acre farm. Just 5 miles from the Bristol Cabelas. Sad. It's our old "settlement grounds" where some of my ancestors settled in 1771 on patent from King George!

Look up Harleywood Motorcycle on YouTube. The scrambles track is on that farm.

So did I. The most fun I've ever had ON A MOTORCYCLE. I never ran in one that didn't have mud & water. But being a bit older than the kids doing it, I had to work the next day !!! :)

Glynn, did you ever run in any of the SW Virginia or Western NC enduroes like the Brown Mountain Lights or VA Creeper?

Now, I am down to a little Yamaha Cruiser that will only do about 83. I did have a big Suzuki Boulevard but it was more than I needed.

No I didn't Jerry. I ran in Franklin County, and near Brookneal. They had a nice layout. About 5 mile laps. Each lap included the Motorcross track and a real tricky muddy section that could make or break a racer. I'm kinda old for playing in the dirt, & haven't had a street bike for several years, although I may need one more. If people would leave their Smart phones alone while driving I would buy another street bike. Last year I stopped at a Rest Stop on I-81 and a guy asked me to help him pick up the big Yamaha Cruiser he had rented in Richmond. He dropped it while parking & the top heavy 1200 or so was a bear to pick up. He said he was insured for all the broken plastic !! :)
