It seems times are catching up and passing buy. That's something that all of know. I received the latest of the Rock Island auction catalogs today. It looks like all that great old memorabilia is up for sale. I could be wrong, went to the website and it seems they are having money troubles. Maybe I should just let this go.

Roy Rogers

I was in Apple Valley about three years, and the place was closed. My buddy that lives there said Dusty was putting the inventory up for sale. That is the last I heard. It was money problems at that time. Wayne

im 55 and grew up watching Roy Rogers and Dale Evans show. also, Sally Star, Skyking, 3 Stooges, and Rin Tin Tin. sad to say kids today have no recollection of these shows as they dont even play re-runs. hence no one but locals would even know of the museum and bankrupcy is the only recource. it is heartbreaking to see the world we knew change so much, but every generation had similar experiences too. there was a few of the Sky King flicks on a while ago. I saw that Gale Storm passed on a short time ago. My Little Margie is the show that comes to mind.

I remember once about 25 years ago my wife and I were travelling to LA and we took a side trip to Victorville just to see the museum. We were looking at all the displays, especially his bowling trophies, when I looked up and there he was. Having grown up with him I couldn't believe it was really him. But it was. He came over and shook my hand. I was disappointed that there were very few people in the museum at the time. If only they knew what they had missed.

No, I remembered. Brady was one of the original Sons of The Pioneers.

I grew up with all those guys. Not literally but on the Radio, Movies, and later, TV. Nobody could ride a horse like Roy, even though he was a city boy. Look at some of his old movies and pay attention to when he was riding. He made Trigger look good.

The Museum had a lot of Roy's bowling trophies. He bowled on a local Apple Valley league. Just one of the guys. Not a very good bowler, BTW.

Pat Buttram was Gene Autry's sidekick.

He was also a trap shooter, quite good at it. I got to meet Roy once at the trap club at George AFB, when I was there TDY, he was a nice guy - just regular folk.

I also went to the museum in Victoorville, it was nothing fancy but just a bunch of nice memories. I don't know if it is true or not but there was a large brick ranch house just down the road from the museum and I was told that was where he lived. It was nothing fancy outside of being a little larger than the normal house of the early 70's. I was also told that at that time he owned the Apple Valley Inn in Victorville, once again I don't know if that is true or not. It was a nice place to have a good dinner and a great view of the valley.

This occurance is just showing our age and is the passing of another era -darn it!! I hate it.

Gentlemen ...

I'll always remember playing golf at Apple Valley Country Club in Victorville, CA, with my best friend [I think I was about 19 at the time, I'm now 64] and an assistant pro I worked with at Los Penasquitos Country Club in San Diego. The reason I can still remember this day is not so much the golf, although the Appple Valley Country Club was a beautiful high desert course, but who I met after the round.

As a kid, I always watched the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans TV shows. Well, after the round of golf we ended up at the Roy Rogers Apple Valley Inn for dinner and a few drinks. The assistant pro was an older fella who thought it was OK for young men to have a drink now and then, under the right kind of supervision, and of course, he thought he was the right kind.

Anyway, as we drifted on in to the Apple Valley Inn, who do you think we met in the lobby? Roy? No. Dale? No. But there he was, all in his magnificent splendor, as big and as spectacular as ever. Who was it? It was Roy's best friend ... Trigger !!! He had been stuffed after his passing, dressed in a beautiful silver saddle, and placed in a huge glass case for everyone to admire as they entered the lobby. I'll never forget that day as long as I live. Art

I heard Trigger was not exactly stuffed, it was more like Trigger was sort of fiberglassed. I am glad to see Trigger made the move to Branson.
I met Roy and Dale once in a hotel in Battle Creek Michigan this had to be 1948 or 49 my family was having a Coca Cola after a movie and the waiter told us Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were to arrive there in a few minutes so we waited. I like a fool (I was maybe 5 or 6 at the time) asked him why Trigger was not with them?

You may have heard but I actually saw him. I've been in a lot of museums and believe me he was "stuffed." It was a great taxidermy job. He looked nice! :)

"If I were Roy Rogers I'd sure enough be single, I couldn't bring myself to marry that old Dale. It'd just be me and Trigger, we'd go riding through them movies, then we'd buy a boat and on the sea we'd sail." Lyle Lovett;"If I had a boat".

Roy and friends

Still alive and well on my TV each evening, Gail Davis in "Annie Oakley" , The "Lone Ranger", and of course Roy. The films are sometimesa bit fuzzy but so are our memories. Makes me yearn for my "Hasbro" chrome painted sixshooters with the smell of fired caps and my studded 2 gun holster, leather chaps and vest, felt hat and my old rockin horse grampa built me ! ran over it with a 56 Ford at 3 yrs old  did'nt know I needed a driving permit :D
