Hi All,
Im looking for a good accurate load for my Savage 10FP in .308, She loves 42.5 grs of RL-15 behind a Hornaday 168gr HPBT bullet, the only problem is RL-15 can't be found anywhere for a price with-in reason. I've read some good things about IMR 8208 XBR, so I'd love to hear from any of you guys that have used it in a .308, and advice/info will be greatly appriciated.
Paul

Best place for that is Hodgdon.com You should contact Ron Reiber for best loads.

WARNING: With all loads, ALWAYS START 10% LOW and work up incrementally.

Hodgdons is showing 39 to 43.3 grs of IMR 8208XBR with 168 gr sierra The low load is a tad less the 2,500 fps work it from there it's pretty narrow margin.
That powder was or is being used for the 172 174 gr sniper round.
I hope this helps some.

8208xbr

I have been working up loads for my two and very different .308's using 8208XBR and the Hornady Amax. The first load I'm working on is for a Remington 700 Compact Tactical. It likes the 168gr in front of 42gr of RL-15. I have not as yet, gotten the same groups (.410in @ 100yds, outside to outside group) using 8208XBR. Why? I'm not sure yet. The second load is for a very slightly modified S&W M&P10. It likes the heavier 178gr Amax in front of 41grs of RL-15. I had gotten used to the .5in groups at 100yds. Again, I am not getting the same groups using 8208XBR. I just started using 8208XBR because finding RL-15 is like looking for hens teeth these days. I weigh each bullet and charge and match everything like I normally do. I can only imagine that I haven't found the magic load as yet. If anyone has a suggestion.. I'm all ears...

I know what your talking about as to powders.
seems Like you have to use what you can get.
Heres two loads that are safe and in the books that work well for me in my 308
41.5 grs H4895 168 sierra 43.5 grs H 4895 150 sierra match.
Both shoot very very well in my PSS 700 and also with the hart bbl 700 tactical built by hart.
1/2 group are many in both rifles.
WE messed up by not getting any of that surplus { pull down} RL 15

155s with 45.3 gr 8208 XBR and Tula primers Win cases works good for me (I haven't used 168s) a 4fps ES.
