8208 6BR Velocity

Lynn:

I did a run on the numbers for 6BR (N) and the 107 SMK at 2555 fps. It runs out to about 1200 fps at 1K yds. This is a bit on the slow side. Is the 2555 fps load a full case?

I am supposed to test it out news years morning if the range is open otherwise I will do it sunday.I have been fighting a bit of a flu or cold here lately and when you couple that with 50 degree weather its no fun hanging out at the range.
The numbers given above are very conservative numbers. The Varget load shows 29.0 grains as being a compressed load and my everyday load is 31.5 grains.I am guessing there freebore is very short in there test rifle.

107 SMK Velocity

Lynn:

For the 6BR (N) with a 107 SMK one is going to have to have a MV of about 2950 fps to make 1400 fps at 1000 yds. The accuracy question withstanding the first thing is to see if one can make 2950+ fps. I can run Quickload for Varget but not 8208. Please keep us informed. Get well soon.

Jeffery, I was told by my contact at ADI to use AR2216H for the powder selection in QUICKload. That is the closest burn rate to this powder which is ADI's AR2210-V02.

Jerry:

Thank you for the info. I think IMR 8208 XBR is a somewhat different animal than what we have been shooting. I will try to "borrow" a pound and check it out in the next few months. I am sitting on a good supply of Varget, and it does well in my 6BR (N). At the range tomorrow someone should be shooting IMR 8208 XBR, so we should have some idea of what is going on.

6x47 lapua short

I short chambered the 6x47 lapua 100 thousands short trimmed cases accordingly which is about 1.6 grains over the dasher and the same powder charge of varget against the 8208xbr the velocity with the new powder is 50 ft per second faster and with out over run the cases potential i get 3040 fps with very good numbers at 53 degrees.

Same powder charge by weight or by volume? The bulk density of the XBR is quite a bit heavier than Varget.

Sounds like it may be a good powder for the 6BR then.

Jerry,
I am curious if you have made a typo. I have QL 3.4 and it doesn't have ADI AR2216H but does have ADI AR2206H. I then checked on Thales ADI website and they don't list any AR2216H either.

Yep, James. Looks like I have a case of typlexia today. It is AR2206H.
