IBS Anual Meeting Summary - actions in wake of PS Magazine demise

You know, I've really got to side w/Charles Ellertson here, something in the 400-450 range would be ideal. My dream would be "unlimited" as in shoot what'cha brung, all the flags you can put out and unlimited sighters. Then and only then can EVER'BODY bring their 'A' game.

I'd drive a long ways to try that out!

I would guess it would be to find a range that can handle a match of that size. ......union Co. has 300 yds. and has the facilities to handle it, i would guess you need moving backers? I thought that a range nobody shot would be better but 4-500 but you can't find one set up to do this. you have to try to satisfy every one, so 300 is it. If you can have a sight in period and go for the record it will be even. I think Jeff has a good idea, from the size of the threads and amount of interest. I would like them to try to get new people to try it also, they would get to go with all the different disciplines. I think it may stir some interest in the sport, you have a lot of ground hog shooters in that area.
I think a 5 agg. is a little too much, maybe 3 would be better if you have a 10 shot in there. If you have a large turn out it may turn it to a marathon....... jim

To "who would win" ? ... my opinion would be:

- think the long rangers would have a lot of fun shooting over a sea of flags
- think the short rangers would have a lot of fun shooting against "boomers"
- think everyone would enjoy seeing the masses and variety of equipment
- think the best finishers will have the most accurate rifles to ever be built
- think the best finishers, reloading practices will be highly desired
- think the best finishers will be proficient mirage readers
- think the PRIZE table could be HUGE, and every buddy will win !!!!
Thinking it could be a great event...... and the start of something grand !!!

*** I vote for it to be held in the off-season, in a warm winter state. My thought to this is, more would be able to attend, and not as many conflicts to existing dates and shooting events.

Sure hope it can happen !!!!

Donovan, you are correct. The mix would be extremely interesting and informative for all those involved. Make no bones about it, the best finishers will be "very" good at their game no matter which one they came out of. Nobody is a pushover. In 2012, shooting registered matches, I managed to win or place it the top 3 for 100yd group. Varmint for score, 600 yard, and 1000 yard. None of them are easy for sure.

This could be a real winner.

Joe

I think the short range guys would kick my butt, I think I would have to re-tune everything! I know 10 shots would be under 3/4" at 300 but most of you guys shoot that in one hole. What is a good group at 300 yards anyway?

It appears that the single target records are in inches and the 5 target aggs. are in m.o.a.

Is that correct?

Yes

Edit:

BTW, I was at the Charlotte 300 yard shoot where both Bart & Jeff Graves got their records. It was a special day. Three people broke the existing LV aggregate record -- Jeff Summers broke it as well, just not as small as Bart.

Out host, Wilbur, also won a 300 yard unlimited at Charlotte, a different year. Do remember he was shooting Brady's 68-grain, 9 ogive bullets, so I bought 1,000. I later shot a .082 at 100 with them. But then, everybody knows 9-ogive won't work...

But maybe you shoot NBRSA is why you put them above the IBS records.
Here are the IBS (International) records in any regards:

IBS only covers a small geographic area & small number of shooters for group. If you'll look at the IBS records you posted, they're all from a while ago. For 300 yard group, NBRSA covers a lot more matches, and more recently.

For score, IBS is the one. Here's a link to the sore records

http://internationalbenchrest.com/records/score/index.php

But remember the point-blank 10-ring doesn't match up to the long range 10 ring -- it's bigger, in terms of MOA. IIRC, the 600 yard IBS score target has a 10-ring about the same size in inches as the 300 yard 10-ring...

Somebody will have exact sizes...

Charles -

You should promote an NBRSA event then.......
But please do it in your own new thread topic, and stop the pollution of a IBS orientated and IBS president started thread.
For this event would be governed by IBS rules and IBS records.

Charles,

I invite you to look at the 2013 IBS schedule. The long range program, as I assume you know, is very broad...as far west now as Pueblo, CO. South to MS and GA. Of course, MN and ranges in MO. Score has a wide reach as well. Yep, our group program is the Northeast mainly.

If that's not what I said (but I still think it was what I said) that's what I meant.

When Joe wants to know about 300 yard group shooting, I figured (& still do) that the NBRSA has more, and more recent. For score, it'd be IBS -- and for Long range, but Joe knows all about long range.\

And as Donovan Moran has so ably proved, BR Central isn't much about information anymore, it's politics, of all sorts. Bye.

Don't go away Charles. Fantasyland is more fun. What is your fantasy purpose built gun for this shoot? 22 lb. 6ppc? How about 22 lb 30 Major AI with a brake?

Actually I think Charles stated his thoughts on that way back in post #15

"If I were to build a rifle for this event, I'd chamber up a 6 PPC with a 10-twist barrel (well, 10-15 barrels if you want to be sure of a really good one) & use the 95 grain BIBs. That twist would let in some Berger's, too. Or that's where I'd start. If your boltface wold take a .475 case, a 6-BR should do as well."

Personally I would probably use my 30x47 or a 6BR depending on the amount of wind.
