I've been trying to put a rifle together. Weighting all the various options Recievers, barrels, etc. How come I never seem to hear Douglas barrels mentioned anywhere?

You might do a search.
There was a month or so ago a whole long thread about Douglas barrels.

I guess I should clarify..... I meant being used by big name builders.

The current crop of Douglas Barrels are great. For hunting & custom stuff they are wonderful. I'm also seeing them more & more on the IBS benches. A friend has a new 1000 yard bench gun with which he's shot at least three 3 inch 5 shot groups.

Yes he shoots left handed.

I think Douglas is more of an old name than big name in short range Benchrest.

you do not mention what type of rifle you are building. this is a benchrest forum, tho general page. most will be thinking br when a question is asked,
so tell us what you are building, and i am sure we can help.

A combination BR & F Class gun. Thinking of 6.5 x 47 L chambering.

i used a broughton for my 1000 yd gun...shoots .3 at 200 with 208 amax.......i built the rifle and happy with most of my decisions.
i have a 308 win br with a krieger 1/15, a 223 with a hart 1/14...and a 6beggs with a krieger.

for competition i suggest you stick with makers that show up in the top 20 of a match for 600/1000 and f class..........

talk to the f class guys on thier forum and the 600/1000 on that forum...

Mike you might want to be a little more open minded Dougles is definitley making a big comeback in long range benchrest. Have heared from a lot of gunsmiths how straight there barrles are. I'm sure there are guys shooting them, but haven't changed there equipment list as of yet. So keep your eyes open. Was going to order one myself!

joe.....i mentioned that i used a broughten....sorta open minded. if douglas is getting back into the competition ranks...then competitve shooters should know and they will show up on equiptment lists. i said to talk to people......not look just at the past records.
so let us know how yours works out.
i'm out of money...

Yup, they do.

Spool on down to the equipment lists . . .

If you read the several recent threads, you'll notice that a couple of top-name, point-blank BR shooters use them too, but in the equipment list, say only "Made in the USA."

FWIW
As I count the listings in the equipment list
40 listings
16 Douglas
11 Krieger
4 Broughton
3 Spencer
2 Bartline
1 Brux
1 Shilien
1 Rock Creek
1 Hart

Tim probably had to take up 1000 yd shooting after I stole all his flag stands - along with every other flag stand the Douglas crew owned.

You can't go wrong with that. I have one with a 28" Krieger with a PTG reamer and .120 FB. For 123 to 130 gr. VLD's.
