I have seen a lot of information and discussion on this rest in the rimfire and air rifle bench rest section but I'm looking at one of these for a centerfire rifle and was wondering if any owners could offer their opinions.
First, I'm not planning on using this in any competition. I groundhog hunt at some pretty good distances, we've got fields that are over 2000yds long, and have a trailer set up with an elevated platform and rotating benches, the whole set up is pretty slick and very stable. I've been looking at one piece rests to eliminate any error in bag and rest alignment and also to give me a repeatable consistent setup. We really don't have a way to shoot a practice round or sighters to see if everything is working right and I'm pretty picky about the setup and usually worried that I don't have it just right.
That brings me to the Fulghum rest. I haven't seen one in person just on Randolph Machines site, I like the controls setup and the key that the rifle keeps the same alignment with the rest as you adjust it. My big questions and concerns are will this rest function the same with a 40lb gun, that and is there any kind of adjustment for the distant between the rear and front rest if need be?
I plan on calling down to Randolph and talking to him this week about it (bought a top from him last year and he's a good guy to deal with) but just wanted to get some opinions from people that have them or have used them to see one might be suitable for my application.
