Can anybody prove that fussing with brass and necks will result in better groups at 600-1,000y, which is the subject of this forum? Ditto Winchester vs. Lapua?

Can Shooter X, using a batch of loads crafted to perfect, ridiculously time consuming standards, shoot them better than he can with loads crafted to basic standards? Especially if he doesn't know which batch is which?

I bet he (or she) cannot. There is too much else involved in long range BR to justify being so obsessed about the nth degree of case preparation -- unless you enjoy it. That's every shooter's prerogative.

Crafting perfect brass, to within 1/10,000" in every measurable aspect, is not going to net another shooter a win against the big dogs in the BR world, short or long range. But it's simpler, somehow, for some shooters to look for such answers, rather than looking at different things (like how often they get to the range, can they read the wind, is their scope repeatable, is their bedding job still good, and should they have had decaf instead of that triple espresso an hour before the match). :)

This is all what makes it a horserace. Hopefully the newbies contemplating such competition will grasp that it's more important to stay in the saddle than it is to have a titanium bridle bit and Gore-tex silks. ;)
