Firing pin spring rate

Is there a sort of standard compression rate for rimfire firing pin springs or just use what seems to work best in your rifle? What range in lbs per inch of compression would be a good starting point? Any help would be appreciated.

Wayne, not an easy one, different actions have different requirements, some rely on the spring primarily, some a combo of spring/mass of pin. What action are you using?

Tim, It is for a Valmet Finnish Lion. The spring is in 4 pieces, 3 little ones and 1 big one. The only spring that came close is from brownells, but the wire dia is .o36 instead of .043 like the original.Tried practice firings on fired cases and the strikes were very light. I doubt they would have fired a round.

lion,
Check on McMaster Carr's website. You can probably find a spring in they're stock that will fit your requirements. They had a lot of options when it comes to springs, very and affordable too. If you get one in .043 or .045 stock and cut it to length it should work. Not sure about your action but 18# to 24# should work.

My experience with McMaster Carr is they will not sell to anyone off the street, you have to be a business with an account, is that not the case? Thanks, Douglas

McMaster

McMaster will sell to anyone. Just go to their website, pick what you want, and put it on your credit card. Most deliveries will be the next day, every time.

I guess I should have said I already tried Mcmaster Carr. The springs that measured .043 wire dia were too big OD. I am limited by a .235 dia pocket. Found one company with .218 dia but wire dia was only .036. I haven't given up yet.
