Farley rests

I have been trying to get "acquainted" with BR as a whole.
Been reading all the threads on here, as much as I can.
Farley rests have been the subject a lot. Dont know anything about them.
Just looked it up at Bruno's ....$850????
For a rest?
I can see this is going to be an EXPENSIVE hobby.

It's like everything else, can be as expensive as you want to make it. Lots of good rests around besides farleys and a lot cheaper, it's all in what you want. Steve

Yup, it's expensive alright and I am one who has tried to go the cheap route. It doesn't pay. You wind up buying the expensive stuff anyway and having a collection of the cheap stuff on the shelf getting dusty. It's your money but I would recommend that you go with the high end stuff right from the beginning. It's actually cheaper that way.

The Farley rest is one of the best out there and that's why it's so expensive.

Its sure alot cheaper than my walleye boat, and I got to put gas in it to use it.

I began BR with a Hart rest, and it is still adequate for competition. Bought a Farley couple years ago, and love it. I would stay away from the Rock; shooters I know say too many negatives.

The Caldwell Rock base is OK. Too tall, but OK. The top is atrocious.

If you could pick up a Rock really cheap, you could put a ShadeTree top on it. You'd need a tall rear bag and/or play some tricks to shorten the Rock base.

Agreed. It's a little expensive to get started in a competitive way. OTOH- If you don't go overboard and buy everything brand new, including the lastest, greatest new toys, you can recover mosy of your investment should you decide this isn't for you. The Farley rest might be one of the best investments of all. You don't often see used ones go for less than $7-750. Would that cars would hold their value this well.

Go to matches and see what the top shooters are using. Compile a list fo wants/needs, then watch the classifieds, first for pricing info and next for good deals. If you're patient, you can get there for a reasonable outlay.

Over time, it's not the big ticket items like rifles, scopes and rests that will eat you up, it's the expendables - powder, primers, bullets & barrels.
