External Scope Adjustment System

I understand that Bob Brackney Freezes Leupold Scopes and makes External Adjustments for same.

Does anyone know of anyone else that does this.

I think I heard once that Gene Buckys does.

Any help will be appreciated.

If Buckys still sells the mounts he must freeze the scope or the mount would be worthless, or he has someone do it for him. I have seen both, both are good, but the Brackney is easier to deal with as a score shooter imho...I have 2. Tks

Jewel/ Foster also produced mounts similar to the Brackney system a while back. The were of top notch quality and Jackie Schmidt won a lot of two guns with'em. =)

You can find them every once in while in the classifieds.

I had a Jewell/Foster setup as my first attempt at external adjust mounts. They are extremely well made. That said they are not as well setup as a Buckys or Brackney imho. I had to send mine back to Foster to have him turn down the vertical adjust plunger as it would stick in the recess. I found the system has a lot of jump...meaning I would adjust the system for POI and it would make a move then jump again. I found it "sticky" is about the only way I can explain it. Also, there were for 1" scopes only. The Brackney is for 30mm tubes so is adaptable to Leupold comp scopes. For score shooting the Brackney is about as good as a system of this type gets. Often you can find complete Brackney rings and frozen Leups for 1000-1100. Brackney made some variations....1 screw per side and 2 screw and he will provide them in full micrometer top form or a lower profile, unmarked version. Personally I find the marking are worthless as the target gives you the adjustment scale you need. But, some folks just can't live without marks on the tops. --Greg

I have had the opportunity to play with a Jewel/Foster setup. The first thing that I did was make sure that the rear adjustment and spring tension surfaces were centered on the spheroid contact ring on that is mounted on the scope tube, and hidden from view, unless the top of the rear ring is removed. Once I had the front to rear ring spacing, I mounted the assembly on my Viper action, and sighted in. There were no false moves. After bore sighting, I fired a shot, and then dialed the cross hair intersection over onto it. The second bullet hole took out half of the first one, and I did not see any subsequent shift. Some time later, I changed barrels, repeating the process, with the same result. I really liked not having clicks. The rifle is used for shooting groups. Once it is sighted in for a particular yardage, barrel, or load, I leave it alone.

glp I have a Bucky's mount for a Farley I am willing to sell. Russell M

I have 4 frozen scopes and 3 mount setups, two Buckys and a Brackney 40X W/ crosshairs only. I prefer the Brackney because it is a much simpler arangement, much more attractive and easier to use. I only wish he made then in 1". I realize I could use shims but it would look S - - - -Y so I have resisted. He said at one time he may get into 1" but that was a long time ago and I don't expect it now.

For someone wanting as near to absolute reliability as one can get, I don't see how one could beat a frozen scope setup.

Could someone Please let me know contact/e-mail info for Mr Buckys and Mr Brackney.
Thank's Remy

How much weight do you gain using the frozen scope and adjustable base for let's say a leupold competition 45x45 scope?

Dan

Not sure with the 45 with the Brackney but with the 36x and the Buckys it's about a wash to a little lighter. The parts you take out weigh as much or more than the mount. I'm sure someone will chime in with the 45 with the Brackney but I would expect it to be about the same.
