Electronic Earmuffs - what to buy

My Deben muffs have gone belly up & good riddance. Though they were a slim profile, had good response & didn't interfere with my UHF radio when I walked the line, the bloody on/off buttens kept falling off, resulting with me leaving the buggers on & flattening batteries.

What's the good gear these days - preferably a slim profile, desirably a support system that allows me to wear a hat with a brim, good value & (hah) inexpensive?

Not sure if they'll meet all your criteria, but I have and like the Howard Leight model electronic muffs. You can find them for around $50-60 depending on the source. Low profile, good clarity. If you are looking for a behind the neck wire-type, the peltor's are good, but the battery access leaves something to be desired.

Hope this helps. I use these with foam plugs underneath and have no problem with hearing conversation or range commands.

The Peltor works fine, except it's very awkward to change batteries and the damn things eat batteries like a starved junkyard dog. Seldom get through an entire match before they die.

The Howard Light works well, provided you use foam plugs underneath. Batteries have a reasonable life.
 
I believe Midway has the Howard Leight muffs on sale now. I am very pleased with mine.
 
Peltor

Have Peltor for a number of years and they work great and mine uses 9 volt battery. Left it on for a week and the battery still working. Since I am hard of hearing I have it on 3 hours at a time while at the range so I can hear what is going on while shooting. Good Luck craig
 
Electric ear muffs

I have had Pro-Ears They came with fairly hard ear cups and used expensive batteries. After about 5 years the ear cups went south and I returned them. I paid to have them refurbished they cam bac with much better ear cups and the expensive batteries have come down in price. They are very good in my opinion.

None feel as good or work as well as my David Clarks (non electric). The gel ear cup cost more than most ear muffs. If David Clarks are available in an electronic muff give them a serious review. My David Clarks for avaition are second to none.

I use Walkers quad muffs and they work very well. Battery life is fairly good(enough for sun up to sun down on a deer stand) and they are fairly inexpensive at about 150.00. They also make a digital verson for about 400.00 that I am sure is the cats meow but thats a bit spendy for me.

They have nice easy to reach volume knobs and a kind of "bass/treble" knob also. I would very much recommend them and would buy them again.

I use the Remington® R2000™ Electronic Earmuffs. These muffs selectively monitor sound, shutting out anything above 84 decibels but let normal conversation through with individual controls. Their lightweight, thin in profile and have an adjustable headband, and an external battery housing makes changing batteries quick and easy. Batteries are included. If you shut off the Electronics they still provide an NRR of about 23 dBs. DON'T shut off the Electronics. You won't get the benefits you're paying for. You'll find them advertised for around $100 ($99.99 at Midway) or more. I paid $54.95 at Wal-Mart.

Peltor Tactical 7-5. Paid like 250.00 for mine, I can highly recommend you put these at the VARY TOP of your "DON'T BUY LIST"!

What I do like, is the moulded in plugs and a pair of slim line muffs. I have yet to find a pair of electronic muffs that beat the bounce from shooting under a roof. All the dern things should come with a warning.:mad:

I have a pair from Dillon bought 11 years age and still working good.
Battery life is excellent, but the best part is that Dillon sells the ear cup replacements and the foam covering the receivers. Their service I have found is excellent. Highly reccommend.

I went anal & ordered a set of Howard Leight muffs from Optic World. They were the cheapest price I could find from a site who will sell to Australia.
