Educate Me On Benchrest Stocks

I'm a complete newby and have noticed several comments about "true benchrest stocks" that allow the rifel to recoil properly. I've also noticed that there are several standard form factors that seem to be used for most benchrest stocks.

Can anyone recommend a source of reading material that will educate me on what recoil characteristics are desirable for maximum accuracy and why the shape / design of benchrest stocks facilitate "propper recoil".

Thanks for any recommendations / knoledge you can share.

The link that was posted surely does explain size etc on the stock.
Take a look at mcmillans web site also robertsons, bordens , stiller etc.
There are photos of the various stock used in benchrest competition.
There.s different styles all complying to the rules.
There are wood wood, fiberglass and carbon fiber.
Even a aluminum and tubing style that are currently legal.
Picking one is like decideing on an action. all are excellent
You just have to choose what you like best.
I hope this helps . Many suppliers are right here on the site.

A newby should read the excellent book by Mike Ratigan, "Extreme Rifle Accuracy". Lots of good information including why stocks are slick, straight and feather lite.

Many thanks to all you gentelmen. I will take a look at all the links and books suggested. P.S. I did notice that to be a benchrest stock it seemingly must be an obnixious color:D. Thanks againg.

I have nothing left in my right brain and nothing right in my left brain...

At least that's what Adrian said...:D
