Ed Bernabeo Wins 250 Yard Walker County "Shatterblast"

Walker County Benchrest hosted it's second Shatterblast of the season this morning.

This Format is 250 yards, with eight 2 inch diameter clay disc glued to a target board, worth 25 points a hit, with two 3/8 inch orange aspirin tablets in the middle, worth 50 points each.

After a 9:00 AM sight in, you shoot 4 Matches, where you are allowed only 10 loaded rounds on the bench for each match. The time limit foe each match is 7 minutes to shoot the eight clay disc and the two aspirin tablets.

Conditions were pretty nice. At the end, Ed Bernabeo and Jackie Schmidt were tied for first, and went to a shootoff, where they hang a 100 yard score target on the board, (still 250 yards), and you get one shot. The closest to the middle wins.

There was also a tie for 3D between Richard Pullum, Dickey Pustejovsky, and Justin Cockcroft.

The final results saw Ed Bernabeo 1st, Jackie Schmidt 2d, and Richard Pullum 3d.

FYI, Ed shot a 25 Dasher, Jackie shot his 30BR, and Richard shot a 6 Dasher. A good variety.

Holy COW! There is almost as many womens as mens....in the picture.
At Monroe RPC. We occasionally shoot pool cue chalk. 200y. Wow it's fun......we balance the cue on 2 screws w/rubber band. Use a new rubber band each time....I got screwed by a bad band once. Just once......
Oh, about a 6" cloud for a good hit. Hit a screw. Wow almost 18" cloud red or blue......the plywood backer has a 3" hole.....
Tie breakers are .750" paint balls.....
 
24 shooters that is a real good turn out..........

Going to see if that would be the 3rd tie breaker maybe.

Did ya know paint balls "go bad" ??? like a rottin egg....
 
Josh and I shot the LSSO match at Stephenville a couple of times that Jerry Stiller and Shelly Davidson were sponsoring. It was shooting at 3 four inch, 3 three inch and 2 two inch clay pigeons mounted on black cellotex at 400 yards. so that you couldn’t see bullet holes on misses. It was a fun shoot. We were shooting 6 Dashers with 107 Sierras. It was similar to what you were doing. You laid ten rounds on the bench or on the ground if you were shooting prone. Had to furnish your own bench so a lot of people shot prone as it was steadier than a shaky bench. There were quite a few benchrest shooters at the LSSO. Lone Star Shoot Out. The guys who won were shooting 6.5-284’s. No wind flags except for some range flags on the side of the range. It’s pretty easy to see the appeal of score shooting. We all like to hit what we are aiming at whether it’s a 6” steel gong, 2” clay pigeon or a 3/8” orange aspirin.

Mike, the 400 yard clay shoots are alive and well.On April 14, we will shoot our 13th annual shoot here in Utopia. We have a series of shoots at various locations around the state. The oldest shoot is here in Utopia. There is one in Hallettsville, one in Graham, and normally one in San Angelo although that one will not be shot this year due to a health issue. Since we all have concrete benches at the ranges we standardized on a little different target format. Our board has one large clay, two medium clays, and five small clays. The large is worth 10 points, the mediums 20 points each, and the smalls are worth 30 points each for a total of 200 points or a match possible of 1,000 points for five boards. Although we often flirt with perfect scores, they are very hard to come by. It is a shame TacPro let the LSSO expire so badly.
Come on back and shoot with us. It is a hoot to watch the clays break.
