cleaning up duracoat on a rifle crown

I have had a stainless barreled action duracoated.I want to tidy up the crown that has some duracoat on it. Is there a easy way to remove this over-spray of duracoat ?
I dont want to use any chemicals ,any surgestions
any replys appreciated

Spin it in a lathe and polish the muzzle with 400 grit wet/dry paper staying away from the edge of the bore.

Stripz-em or equivalent Methylene chloride based solvent removes duracoat from a barrel very effectively.

thanks for the reply guys , i have no excess to a lathe can the polishing be done by hand. I have a dremel if this may help

I would not use a dremel, especially if you have no lathe to repair it. Paint stripper at the local hardware removes durocoat. use a q-tip then a cleaning brush.
 
Duracoat Damaged?

Are there signs that the crown is bad? If the Duracoat is not damaged, your crown shouldn't be either.

Not damaged just want to remove the duracoat from the face of the crown.
 
Jason,

If your crown has a high luster finish (i.e. polished) just shoot the gun, the Duracoat most likely won't hold on long. I use Duracoat on my guns and all my crowns are 11 degree polished, can't get Duracoat to stay on even if I wanted it to.

If your crown is not polished, try the stripper method but make sure you plug up the bore with something ( I usually use a piece of paper towel).

I might just see if it wears its off ,but as usual I am always in a hurry to get things done!
If I took my time and done it by hand would 400 grit wet /dry do the trick or is the duracoat more durable than this ?
I was thinking if a had a peice I could go around in circle of the outer face of the crown the remove the offending duracoat.
Last question on this what do you think guys ?

BEST way...............

take a piece of electrician's tape, put it over the crown, gently trim it to fit the face of the crown PERFECTLY, repeat when next appying Duracoat. :D:D
IF you try the metheylene chloride removal method, make SURE you wear protective gloves. Assimilation can occur through mucous membranes, skin, inspiration, or ingestion, can/will cause liver cancer.
Remember, you can't LIVE without LIVER. Seriously. ;)
 
fixed it guys ,it was just the gray duracoat undercoat. Had some 1200 wet dry went around it lightly and it all came off.more like lighty polishing the crown and I stayed away from the muzzle.Just the outer edges of the crown
