Chamber reamer and stress proof steel

I need to make a tool and the only piece of steel I have on hand is a piece of stress proof.
Would it hurt a good chamber reamer to use it on stress proof or should I order a piece of 12L14 ?

Thanks
Hal

We machine a lot of Stressproof. It is a carbon/manganese alloy with a relative high sulphur content to enhance it’s machinability.

It is very good machining steel. You will harm nothing.

Better machinability allows the production of finer cutting edges.

For heavy use some hardening and tempering often goes a long way.
Followed by a touch up on the cutting edge by very fine diamond paddles.

Most of my machining is in aluminum fixtures.
HSS can make a better surface then carbide ever could.
Carbide is a composite material of extremely hard steel held in a (commonly) nickel bond.

HSS granularity is much finer.
