CF Tuners, where to buy?

Translation

I believe this is what Bob said:

Some time ago I am looking and it seems that clamp-on
center for fire is not suitable.
I got them for BR50 on a .22
For center fire will screw you over must be cut and you know how the Dutch law is in that area.
Have you been in PPC?

Francis

Good idea with the plastic tipped screws

Wow, you never cease to impress me. Now permit me to describe "my" tuner. Since I don't have a lathe and my local 'smiths lathe is not large enough to handle BR barrels....I have improvised. I had him turn me some aluminum sleeve adapters. I don't have one handy or calipers but this is the idea. The sleeves are threaded 28/in and a bit over 1" in OD. The ID is just large enough to slip over the end of a barrel. I then JB weld it to the barrel. The actual tuner is a piece of brass about 2-2.25 OD internally threaded at 28/in. and same ID as the OD of the sleeve. They are of a thickness, about 1/2 inch to weigh 4-5 oz. Most are about 4.2-4.4 oz. A regular set screw with a couple lead pellets under it lock it to the aluminum sleeve. The threads have a close fit to begin with so not much tenson on the set screw is needed. It is a bit of trouble to keep up with the allen wrench that fits the set screw so I think I will change to the nylon screw as it has a head on it. The outside of my tuner is knurled so it is easy to grip. The nice part of this is that by applying a bit of heat I can remove the aluminum sleeve/adapter and put it on another barrel. The JB weld comes off the aluminum really easy and was a surprise to me. This is much easier than threading a barrel, at least for me, and probably others. I have had absolutely no problems with the sleeve coming loose from the barrel.

Hi Jim,

Your translation is about right.
Do you understand Dutch or did you use a translation device?

Is je PPC al binnen means Did your PPC shows up yet.

Dutch Jim has ordered a PPC in the States and it's ready for shipping or has been shipped to The Netherlands.
I'll hope for Jim that his new rifle will be shipped straight to The Netherlands instead of Mogolia as my bullets were and as told in my thread "Package shipped to Mongolia".

Guys you don't have to start a Dutch conversation course my post in Dutch was a one time joke.

All the best,

Bob.

One language at a time - Here in the USA, we have to learn to speak Spanish...

Sorry for the radio silence, busy week and all... :)

Thanks for all the answers, there were more than I was expecting!

Threading the barrel is not an issue, so I will go that route. I'd rather be lazy than tired, so the clamp on seemed the path of least resistance. But I think that in the end this is also the reason why there are no CF clamp-ons, no resistance to keep it falling off the barrel eventually ;)

Bob, yes the PPC arrived, it's a 22 short PPC. Dave B did another fine job, now it's up to me to shoot some holes. I want to try the tuner on this rifle.

NB: We >have to< learn german, french and english here. But don't make me speak french! please!!! I was the reason behind the phrase "pardon my french" :D Three languages is more than any normal person should have to speak to make himself understood on this rock ;)

No centerfire clamp-ons? See my post above (#4).

why not just buy the one all the top HOF shooters are using? or the one that won the super shoot last year or this one coming up? always go with what is proven and actually wins;)

Jerry, I missed that one, read about the Fudd Rimfire tuner and the rest went out the other ear.

Dusty, which one is that?

David Apple: Were you at the 2004 IBS BR school? Your name sounds familiar, could be just coinsidence. I was there, Clay Spencer was my mentor there.

Yes I was at the 2004 IBS Benchrest School, a wonderful experience.
I use a tuner design very similiar to the one used by Hal Drake who was Score Shooter of the year. Easy to use, no bars or screws, Just loosen the jam nut and rotate to where the gun wants to shoot. They should be oulawed:eek:

Weed Whacker

Another alternative is a small piece of monofilament fishing line under a set screw. I use this for the lock rings on loading dies and it works great.

line would probably work even better, little more ridgid. You can even use the colored line so you can see if there is a piece in the hole.
