Brandon, & June 2nd 1K match at Buter

Brandon, in case you didn't get my PM, come shoot with us. I emailed Jenni Collins about your situation.

Everybody else, come & shoot too. The 10-day forecast (HA!) shows a 30% chance of some showers, but a high of only 75. Where else you gonna get that in June?

Hey Charles.... when you and the crew get done shooting on June 2nd... take the shortcut from Butner due west into Rougemont, NC to Orange County Speedway. I'll be over there making some noise on the track. I'll be back to shoot with you sometime. Both boys are driving now.... among all the other things in life.

Steve

Thanks Charles! I'm going to try my best to make it.

Brandon

Steve, thought you were the "suspension engineer." You driving now, or just the boys?

Charles,
I've worked on and around these cars long enough that I always wanted to try the seat at least 1 time just to know what its like to drive a open wheeled modified.
The car owner I've been working with is getting older and he had major shoulder surgery last sumer on his left shoulder and needs it on his right shoulder. Because of the height of these cars its a trick to get in and out so Rodney said, "your driving, have some fun". I told him not to kid around but don't ask twice. Got 3 races under my belt now and up to speed pretty decent. Kept all the lead cars in my windshield the last race out and down in the 16 sec bracket at ACE Speedway. Next race is at Orange County on June 2nd.
Interesting track though... the banking is steep enough that in the apex of turns 3 & 4 I can't see the flagger because I would have to look through the top left corner of the roof to see him. It's wild. And you gain a whole different perspective from the seat that Sunday afternoon armchair drivers can never understand.

Precision shooting at 600yds is fun.... stomping on 600hp in a 2600# chassis is a rush. Sometimes I think I'am living my life backwards. Racing for the first time at 44yrs old but have shot competitive benchrest for 20yrs before that. Graduated HS, went to a 2yr trade school, got a job, got married, bought a house.... then joined the USMC. Got it backward again I guess.

Now if I could only do something about my job and the hours.

Sorry won't highjack any more of your thread. I see if I can't get the car and trailer loaded up earlier and try to stop by and at least say hey. Its not that far to get to the track from Butner anyway.

Hope everyone has a good time shooting!

Steve

Hard to choose between smelling gun powder or cam 2. Lol. Good luck, Steve

Thomas -- I'm likely going to bring a couple prospects to the match. I have Joel's old HG as a spare, but no LG -- mine's a .338, a bit much for a first-timer. Could you bring the club LG just in case?

Steve -- Joel has a steel plate for the guy who bought Ray McKinneys rifles. He was asking today if I knew how to get it to him. Neighbor of yours, is't he?

BTW, Joel had rotator-cuff surgery about a month ago, He's recovering nicely, but bored. No 3-gun until probably October.

Everybody else -- Come on up/down & shoot with us. The rain chance has gone down to 20%, but the temp forecast is now up to 80. We'll see. Two matches, four targets, for 30 records shots, unless you win you relay, then more shots in the shootoff (5 for LG, 10 for HG). Edit: Maximum 60 record shots needed if you go crazy & win all your relays.

About 26 MOA up from a 100 yard zero.

& Steve, if we don't see you, Bon Chance - I guess you don't say "break a leg" to a driver...

Rich,

Apparently, in 6 years, Steve will be 50. We need to all get together & throw him a "half a century of Steve Shelp" party. Sally's already done the hard part....

Sounds good Charles......................
Steve: never ran a "round-d-round" but did play with a "bracket" drag car a few years back:)

Rich De,
Hey man. It has been a few years.

Charles,
Yes that guy that bought Ray's rifles lives right down the road. He is still interested in that plate. Him and I are both knee deep into Scouts and that keeps us busy to say the least. Hopefully we will make a match or 2 this year.

Half a Century party..... hmmm I'm always up for a party. It will have to involve guns or horspower though.

I'll have to give Joel a holler. My car owner has been slowy recovering with his left shoulder. But he wore out his right in the meantime and now he is worse off with his right then his left ever was.

and about the break a leg comment.... I busted my legs on more than one occassion growing up and it didn't involve a motor. Please, let's not go there.

Mr FourOn,
Who can ever forgot how you earned that nickname up in VA! hehehe purple grade racing fuel is $8.50/gal right now. But you are right the sounds and smells of a well tuned SB Chevrolet just purring in your ears through open headers or the smell of burnt gunpowder. good choices.

The weather is looking pretty decent last time I looked. Everyone be safe, shoot straight, and have a good time! Gotta get ready for my scheduled work in 20 mins. see ya'll later.

Steve

Brandon,

I *think* my private message went through, but the computer doesn't show it. Anyway, yes, bring a table. A canopy can be nice, though there is a southward-facing tree line behind the firing line, & some get their shade from that.

Bring food and water, and a trash bag to take away any trash you generate. No trashcans on this government facility.
