Bolt lube question

How often do most of you use bolt lube? Every time you clean?
Thanx,

I use a product that I get from Goodson. It's called Gel Lube. I think it's made by Valco of Cincinnati. It's by far the best I've used. It comes in a spray can and comes out liquid but quickly gels into a very slippery lube that sticks to the bolt and doesn't wipe right off the lugs when working the action. I very highly recommend it. It stays with the bolt better than anything I've seen and is super slick stuff. I started useing it after a machinist friend of mine showed it to me. He was useing it as a press lube to make it easier to press something on a shaft.----Mike Ezell

Purple Passion. Can be used for anything from lubing bolts to bullet jacket lube. Its a high pressure, high temp lube that tends to maintain a uniform thickness. Good stuff.

I don't think that the body oil was intended to replace grease on the lugs and cocking cam.

Mr. Allen:

Thank you for that correction. I called Mr. Dohrmann and he confirmed that (as stated on the bottle) it is a bolt body lube. Accordingly, I've ordered some purple passion to put on the lugs and cam. Gratefully, I've not suffered any galling - I think it was because I was really slathering that body lube on at the beginning of every relay.

As a side note, I also use the body lube on my press ram and it works fantastic. Great stuff.

try

i have a BAT so its easy to remove pin assy.I grease the lugs & put bolt body in holding forward then turn to cocked pos. & pushback & forth while turning this prevents grease getting wiped of lugs. Then fit pin assy, every group.I use tetra grease. Jim:cool:

I use Tom Meredith's bolt grease, it is easy to get out of the tube and covers well, don't have to fight with the plunger when I need grease.

I was told by a renouned shooter that he selects a product by color, when color is gone you need more grease, meaning, easy to see.;)

p.s. don't know what's up with the thumb's down, I guess I screwed something up. This is a good thread.

Lube ...

I use the same red stuff that jackie uses in that white container thingie with the words Shooters Choice printed in red. Art

Purple Passion???????

My Wife has some of that, comes in a 1 once bottle for about $150.
It convinces me, (sometimes), to not go to the range early on Week End Mornings:)......jackie

I blend it

I used various hi tec greases ...including the "purple" stuff...liked it ...and the Shooters choice....but they all had one lil problem...I shoot at Fairchance Pa. in the spring and it is COLD...the grease wuld hardly squirt out of the syringe...soooo I blend the purple stuff or shooters choice with 1/2 white lithium from Lubriplate ...it makes the grease flow better when it is cold...brrrr.......Roger

I've been using some stuff that's pretty "viscous" and sticky. Stays pretty much the same from cold to hot... Started using it on some full-auto stuff, and liked how it stayed with the moving parts.
