Best method to cut barrel before chambering

As you know, I am in the machine shop business.

We haven't bought a piece of HSS in years. The industry now makes Carbide Inserts for every conceivable machining operation.

In commercial work with good quality setups carbide can do very well.

There are still any number of places it is not required or needed.

Carbide is at its perfect use for heavy and fast cuts at commodity type tolerances.

Bread and butter machine work.

On hobby grade equipment and setups it is often frustrating to use since it is brittle and a PITA to shape.

The ready availability of diamond tools does make working with carbide easier.

I have diamond laps to prolong the useful life of carbide tooling and even wood router bits.

Unless I have a real need for heavy and fast cut off HSS works just fine.
