Ben Avery LV & HV Match Results

On Saturday (10/03) and Sunday (10/04) we held a LV & HV match at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix. Temps were very nice ranging from 69* to 89* with 29% to 42% humidity. Winds were primarily from the east/southeast. Conditions were challenging with gusts to 30 mph. Several of us were caught by snap switches and we ended up with some ugly looking groups - at least that is the excuse I'm using.

We had 22 shooters and Gary Ocock ran his typical laid-back enjoyable match. We shot the LV and HV 100 on Saturday and the HV and LV 200 on Sunday. We had a new shooter (Steve Cornell) who shot his hunting rifle. On the last match of the LV 200 on Sunday afternoon (in the worst conditions of the weekend) he shot a .651 for small group and beat the pants off us veterans with our fancy bag guns - way to go Steve.

I've attached the full results and a couple of photos for your viewing pleasure. The first photo is of George Raymond basking in the glow of a very nice HV 100 victory in some challenging conditions. The 2nd photo is of yours truly. It was my birthday, I shot my first zero, first teen agg and first yardage win - all in all it was a fine way to celebrate my 54th.

Next match is November 7th and 8th. Come and join us for some group shooting fun.

Congratulations jeff on your group & agg
nice shooting

dan

Thanks Dan. While the screemer and yardage win were great, I was most satisfied with the teen agg.

As usual, Mr. Ocock and Mr. Bruno carried the weekend in the Grands and 2-Gun. Gary would give the commence firing command, walk to his bench nearby, start shooting, complete his group in time to count down from 2-minutes to the end of each match. Then he would get the target crew going, reload, listen to the other shooters comments, call everyone back to the line and start the process all over again. Along the way, he shot very well in some challenging conditions. I'm gratefull that between Gary's match duties and Lester fooling around with 133, a couple of us had a chance to sneak in and steal a few groups.

that a boy jeff you did just as i taught you, i knew you would come around sooner or later (personally i thought later) but wonders never cease in this sport (i'm living proof) good shooting, i think we have you hooked for a few more years in this sport.

Tom:

Wow, Jeff, that is a tough bunch you took on. Good shooting.

Your sighter target looks more like some of mine did at St Louis. Four and one.

Shooting 3 shot groups will do that. The fourth shot goes out and then you realize, wake up, and the fifth goes back in!

Tom:

Thank you Master. Your mentorship is finally paying diviidends. Once I reach a few more of my shooting goals, I want to take your advanced costume class so I can dress appropriately for the awards ceremonies
