Jay Lynn and I went to Pencil Bluff to kick AZZ and take names. The fellers sent us home with our tails tucked between our legs!!
Other than that we had a great time, great people, food, & ready for next year. MR. EDDIE HARRIS was invincible.

Butch you need to start chambering your barrels with a heavy10 and start weighing primers and get a shadetree rest.

Butch,
It was great to see you, your brother and Jay Lynn. As far as Eddie, well he was invincible and shot some range records! even
though I did not shoot well I had a great time. It was good to meet a new shooter Mike Miller also from Texas.
Thanks for coming up.

Joe, as usual, we really enjoyed it and all the Arkansas hospility. Met Mike in Seymour. He is really coming along. He was the only Texican that shot well.

Mike Miller

Sorry I didn.t make it to the Pencil Bluff match. Too many irons in the fire. I Cant pass up this opportunity to talk about Mike Miller, a young man that I feel directly responsible for his interest in Benchrest competition. I met Mike about five years ago, at the Private Gun Club we belong to. He would hang around when we were practicing, getting ready to go to a Benchrest match. I observed an unmistakable look in his eyes. Mike is an avid/reputable, shotgunner(Sporting Clays)

I seized the moment and shared with him, everything I know, or think I know about Benchrest Competition. Long story short.

The Arkansas Match was Mike’s third Registered Benchrest Match. He held his own against some good shooters.

He called after the match, to inform me that he had Dinner with Richard Watson. Richard picked up the tab at a very nice Steak Restaurant. New shooters will always remember stuff like that. There’s a saying, “you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.”

Richard Watson is a retired Chief Of Police, who recently turned 80. Richard has been around the block a few times and he knows a thing or two about how to recruit new blood. Richard is also a darned good shooter.

When the subject comes up, every year, about how to attract new members. There’s always some comment about, “you can take a horse to water”. True…You can take a horse to water and sometimes they drink. I can be a witness to that.

So now that you have been introduced to new shooter Mike Miller, lets try to make a great impression, I.m sure he’ll do the same.

Hats off to Ray Porter for all his efforts getting this match together, also for
John Henry and his son Alex for setting targets and backers, getting the range
in shape, John's wire for the great lunches (especially the cobblers and cake)
and to all of the shooters who came out to participate.
Eddie Harris from TN really showed everyone how it's done with some incredible
shooting.
