Mike Miller
Sorry I didn.t make it to the Pencil Bluff match. Too many irons in the fire. I Cant pass up this opportunity to talk about Mike Miller, a young man that I feel directly responsible for his interest in Benchrest competition. I met Mike about five years ago, at the Private Gun Club we belong to. He would hang around when we were practicing, getting ready to go to a Benchrest match. I observed an unmistakable look in his eyes. Mike is an avid/reputable, shotgunner(Sporting Clays)
I seized the moment and shared with him, everything I know, or think I know about Benchrest Competition. Long story short.
The Arkansas Match was Mike’s third Registered Benchrest Match. He held his own against some good shooters.
He called after the match, to inform me that he had Dinner with Richard Watson. Richard picked up the tab at a very nice Steak Restaurant. New shooters will always remember stuff like that. There’s a saying, “you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.”
Richard Watson is a retired Chief Of Police, who recently turned 80. Richard has been around the block a few times and he knows a thing or two about how to recruit new blood. Richard is also a darned good shooter.
When the subject comes up, every year, about how to attract new members. There’s always some comment about, “you can take a horse to water”. True…You can take a horse to water and sometimes they drink. I can be a witness to that.
So now that you have been introduced to new shooter Mike Miller, lets try to make a great impression, I.m sure he’ll do the same.
