Actions in wake of PS Magazine demise- revisited

Maybe Jeff Stover can respond....
Last year my IBS dues was $50 which included 12 issues of a publication I have enjoyed for the past 20 years. This year my bill came and my dues is $45 with no magazine? Back in December I received a questionair about whether I would prefer my dues to go up to $60 and receive NBRSA's publication or for my dues to go down (and not just $5) and get information on a web site? I personally voted to go with NBRSA's publication. That being said, was not the PS magazine the larger part of the $50 dues? At least I would think so? So now, we are partnering up with The Accurate Shooter web site and the dues has only dropped to $45? It seems we are loosing a whole lot (PS magazine) and not getting much in return (a piece of someone elses web site) for only dropping the dues $5? And BTW, what exactly is an associate member? Or what does an associate member get for $15? Could I be an associate member and get a card to participate in IBS matches? Will you have to pay the $45 in order to access the web page? I wrote to Joan Borden but had not gotten a response.
Don't get me wrong, if this new venture is costing this much I have no problem paying it, but the letter did not explain much and it differed from what the questionair indicated. Thanks for your response!

Rich,

Good questions all. We were not able to reduce the dues as much as we would have liked, but we did reduce them. IBS sent PS magazine about $17,000 which would have paid for future subscriptions. We will see ZERO return on that money-short answer, it is down a rat hole. Initially, we will save money by using our website and accurateshooter.com. But we don't know how much the envisioned "phase 2" is going to cost. That would be the new match scoring and reporting system that we would develop with the accurateshooter programming team. We think the new system will cost a lot of manhours, so we did not want to lower our revenue too much, not knowing what lies ahead. All web resources will be open and not require membership. We may elect to start a "members only" section of the web site, but nothing is immediately planned.

Associate members are still allowed at $15. That is usually a spouse or other family member that shoots. You cannot just join as an individual as an "associate".

Yes, you will need to be an IBS member to shoot registered matches.

jks

IBS financial report

Can we get a yearly financial report where it breaks down where each dollar goes or post it on our website? If not, why not?

Previously we paid $31 for each member to get PS from the $50 fee. Now the membership fee is $45. We are starting at about $8 per member, but that will increase a lot (around $15-20) in the coming months as the phase 2 development work ramps up. Our primary cost after this is the awards, jackets, stickers, etc. That cost has been growing.

disclaimer: All of us that serve IBS are volunteers, except I get to shoot for free at IBS registered matches (match fee only no other reimbursement.

OK Jeff, thanks for the reply. And yes I understand about volunteers.............Our club is that way (almost 400 members) and I was president foe two years. You deserve to shoot for free. Some really large clubs like Central Jersey R & P club (which I used to belong when I lived in NJ) gave their officers free dues.
I will be paying and shooting:cool:
Thanks again for volunteering
