Congratulations!

Do you have any advice for us that are working toward 47 years?

John

You said the magic words...."working toward"

Like any other endevour in life, a little extra effort in making a relationship work goes a long way. My Wife and I do not simply endure marriage after all of these years, we continue to enjoy it. It's not easy to sum up 47 years in a few sentences, but suffice to say there is a lot of give and take on both sides.

I genuinely like Marilyn. Sure, I fell in love with her the night I met her, but I also really liked her. There is a difference.

I am not going to say it's always been easy. 12 years into our marriage, we came within a week of finalizing a divorce. Through the entire process, lawyers steered us toward one goal, that being divorce. One day, we looked at each other and decided that getting divorced was easy. Making a marriage work was what was difficult. So we cancelled the entire thing, and decided to give it a go.

No two people could be more opposite than Marilyn and me. Maybe the old adage that opposites do attract is true in our case.

I am looking forward to our Golden Anniversary.

Congratulations Jackie. MY wife and I trod a similar path to the one you outlined. We made the same decision you two did. We'll be celebrating our 57th this July. Based on the background in the picture I believe we've been in that Perry's' when visiting my daughter and her husband in Houston. Quit a place and great food.
