30/338 Remington Ultra Magnum

I didn't realise Remington had made the 338 RUM shorter than the 300 RUM until I saw a reamer print for the 338 Edge - a 338/300 RUM.

Most would say that the 300 RUM is overbore - what about a 30/338 RUM? Kinda like the 30/338 Winchester Magnum - shorter case, but not as much extra neck length.

You could probably shorten 300 RUM dies ~0.090" to suit.

It'd still be over 100 grains of H2O - stick with a 300 WBY based case?

If You want a 30 cal. go with the 300 wsm there easy to get working! Short and fat also,if you want to use a big bullet go for the 30/338.

When the 338 RUM came out, I had JGS make me 2 reamers. One necked to 7mm and the other to 30 caliber. I built the 7mm version first as I used this for distant opportunities antelope hunting. Dies would be easy as the parent case being 338 RUM are made by Redding and correct bushings for neck tension are easy. I never felt the need for the other chambering, and the 30/338 is still unused. Remington brass is the reason I still do not own this. The performance was stellar!!
