Didn't realize it until this week. Loaded up some 32gr bullets in the a new toy a Ruger in .204 and chrono'd them. WOW, fast, hit 4177fps, didn't see any pressure signs and accuracy was the same as the lower velocities, ave: 1". Not the most accurate gun I've handled but WOW fast. Want to see these little pills hit a PD at 200-300yds.

R.DesJardin: I have a couple of Ruger Rifles in 204 Ruger. They both have 26" barrels and INDEED they do "plop" the Prairie Dogs at 200 to 300 yards distance!
My Ruger 204's are the 77 V/T model and the Ruger #1-V S/S.
Both are capable of excellent and consistent accuracy!
I have used the 32 gr. Hornady factory ammo, 35 gr. Berger handloads and now 32 gr. Sierra BlitzKing bullets in my both my Ruger 204 Ruger's.
They ALL shot quite well.
Yes the terminal performance of the 32 grainers on Prairie Dogs is "striking"!
Which model Ruger are you shooting?
Which 32 grain bullet are you using.
I have not chrono'ed any of my 204's as yet - just to busy I guess.
Wishing you continued happiness with your 204.

Ruger

It's a 77 VT, laminate stock, grey finish. 6-24 Weaver scope.
I'm going to try some Benchmark next hope to keep up the speed and maybe dial in accuracy.

RD,
Try some 10X and Hornady 32s at 4100/4200. We have a few thousand satisfied "recipients" out on the high plains of the Colorado Territory!
Good shooting!:D

I run my 20 Tactical at 4300 fps. I use 32 grain VMax bullets and yes it does create some drama on a prairie dog.

Here is mine.

AVanGorder: Nifty looking rig you have there!
I'm sure, that factory/hybrid in 20 Tactical caliber, is a superb Colony Varminting Rifle!
And is that a pair of the Leica Rangefinding binoculars you have there on the bench?
It appears you are left handed?
Keep up the "good work"!

I worked with Todd Kindler, the designer of the 20Tac, while building the gun. He thought the brake was a bit silly, but it works great. The rifle is right handed and so am I but I'm left eye dominant so I shoot left handed. Having the port on the right side of the gun, while at a bench, is perfect. If the gun is just sitting there and you pull the trigger, it will move about a half inch... that's it.

Yes, those are Geovids.

20Tactical Vs 20VarTarg

Nice rifle, Adrian.
I think you might have an answer for me. I'm looking at a Cooper in 20Tactical ( Cooper has discontinued building this caliber) presently. I've thought about the 20Vartarg too. This will require an order and wait. Any suggestions which to get? Mostly for paper punching. Read some good info on 6BR site too.
( Don't mean to hijack your thread, RD. thought it was a good point seeing the comments on20 cals. :) 0

What stock is that on the Savage?

Mike
I got the stock from Sharp Shooter Supply. http://www.sharpshootersupply.com

Thank you! I love the 20Tac and I'm building another for the Mrs. My next 20 will be a 20VarTArg. Everyone I've spoken with really likes the VarTarg.

20s

Let me ask some of you that have 20 experience. I am strongly considering building a 20 Practical as my first 20 just because of the availability of good Laupa 223 brass that I already have on hand and I can use my existing Redding Competition dies.

Anyone with experience, please compare the 20 Tactical, Practical, and VarTag.

Thank, tiny

20Vartarg is based on the 221 Fireball case.
20 Practical is a standard 223 necked down to 20 cal
20 Tactical is a 223 case necked down to 20 but has a steeper neck and the body blown out.
