1:9 Twist 6.5-284?

I know someone who has a decent looking 6.5-284 for sale which has a new match barrel on it. The problem is that I noticed Berger's site suggests a faster twist of 1:8 for the heavier bullets, and this gun is 1:9.

So I'm wondering if it would be worth it to grab, or if I should just use the money on something with a 1:8 barrel and start off in a better position.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

A 1x9 will work with a 130gr Berger bullet. 130s will work for mot anything. Never turn down a good gun you know from a reliable source if it is what you want.:D

I had a 1 in 9 Pac Nor in 6.5 X 284. Berger 140's worked best in that barrel and I tried them all. It would not shoot the SMK 142s very well but 140 grns and lower worked fine.

I have the same results, Pac-nor 1-9 runs the 140 VLDs great!

nine twist

my brothers cooper is 1 in 9. it does not shoot the 142 and 140vld that well. the 130 norma and the 123 lapua shoot real good in his gun. and while their bc is slightly lower their velocity is higher.

Great. Thanks for the info, guys. I bought the rifle. I finally own a 6.5. :D

Now I just need to find out who has most of the bullets in stock so I can order a little of everything and get to work testing.

hey mirage, congrats on your new rifle. thats a good choice and i'm sure you'll like it. there is a world of info on the 6.5-284 on www.6mmbr.com. it sure helped me! let us know how it shoots. lightman

Thought I would post a picture of the gun--picked it up yesterday. It's a Persian Mauser action and McMillan A2 stock. Barrel is 26" heavy taper down to .930 at the muzzle. I haven't got to break the barrel in yet but will when my order arrives.

1-9" twist 6.5x.284

I've got three Lilja 1-9" twist barrels in 6.5x.284 Shehane. They all shoot the Berger 140's, GTB 141's, and the A-Max 140's very well from 100-1000 yards.
