I am saddened to inform those who knew him, that Lewis Winkler has passed away. Services to be held in Lenoir, NC on Wednesday.

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Lewis J. Winkler, 77, of Lenoir, NC passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Grace Hospital in Morganton, NC. He was born February 3, 1934 to the late Albert and Nellie Sharpe Winkler.
He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Pat Winkler and brother-in-law, Lewis Pennell.
Mr. Winkler was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army, Fort Jackson, SC and Reading, Mass. He was a faithful and active member of Miller Hill Baptist Church for over 40 years.



After retiring from Singer Manufacturing, Mr. Winkler owned and operated Winkler Gun Shop, which started out as a hobby and soon developed into a full time job. His other hobbies include hunting, fishing and long range target competition shooting.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Pennell Winkler; son, Todd Winkler and wife Stephanie Winkler and the “Love of our Life, Granddaughter” Sydney Winkler.
Also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Winkler Greene and husband Dick Greene and one brother, Ross Winkler and following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Gene and Janet Pennell, Bob and Wanda Pennell, Tom and Nancy Pennell, Joyce and David Beard and Kaye and Herb Howell and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Miller Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in the Winkler’s Family Cemetery.
The Family will receive friends on Wednesday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at Miller Hill Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be: Gary Greene, Colton Greene, Tim Beard, Joel Pennell, Mike Pennell, Justin Wyke and John Curtis. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Marvin Gragg, Dale Ramsey, Jerry Arrowood, Jeffery McElrath, Camuel Houk, Carl Lovins and Chuck Asbury.
A special “Thank You” to Dr. Drewno and the Nursing Staff at Grace Hospital for the excellent care shown to our loved one.

Mr. Winkler was a fine man and a great shooter. Very sad to hear the news. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

It is always a sad day when I hear of one of our "old corp" passing. Mr. Winkle was a fine man and I never knew anyone to have a bad thing to say about or to him. I'll bet you he is breaking clays up there now as I type these words. Save a few for the rest of us, Lewis.
