What tool / cutter setup do you use to turn rifle barrel shanks?

Al you are ridiculous ;) If you can't figure out a tool to quickly go in and remove the corner radius I don't know what to tell you! Put your magnifier visor on, take a sharp cornered tool (HSS or brazed carbide ground and lapped sharp) and remove the radius. No need to undercut, just remove...

What tool / cutter setup do you use to turn rifle barrel shanks?

Good grief some must have too much time on their hands. Why someone would feel the need to mess with manipulating the hardness on HSS cutter blanks for general lathe turning which includes gunsmithing is beyond me. Grind them to form and use them, it's not rocket science. I will admit I've taken...

Problem with classifieds - login ?

That's just some "Al speak" for you ;) After interpreting it for many years I more or less "unerstand" (more Al speak) the language. What he meant by "blued it" is selecting text with your mouse (it'll turn blue) and then right clicking the highlighted text to copy it so you can paste it elsewhere.

Problem with classifieds - login ?

It takes two different accounts/logins between the forum and classifieds. One will not work for the other. I just logged in the classifieds and it still works fine.

What tool / cutter setup do you use to turn rifle barrel shanks?

Carbide only works well when you have a solid enough setup to take deeper cuts. Disagree. HSS is more than adequate for typical gun work. Okay, true. Carbide lives and dies by heavy cuts to remove heat in the chips. Again, disagree. People keep repeating this stuff over and over but it doesn't...

but has allowed her suit against it to move forward. A judge on Wednesday rejected the effort by New York's attorney general to put the National Rifle Association out of business for alleged corruption, but she can still seek the ouster of the gun rights group's longtime Chief Executive Wayne...

What tool / cutter setup do you use to turn rifle barrel shanks?

There's a zillion recommendations out there that will work well but I use the following: ISCAR SWAPR-1414-06 Toolholder #3730108 ISCAR WPEX-060402IC908 Insert #5505996 These were long ago recommended by Speedy Gonzales for turning tenons. He originally recommended un-coated but ISCAR...

Savage says the magazine is an AICS pattern so yes it should work as would most any AICS 308 pattern magazines. Good luck buying from Optics Planet.

    C.O.R.N.Y. virus, Dakota variant....

You betcha! I'll put it in the memory bank ;) So many memories with this rifle and the ballistics education was quite eye opening. I wanted one of those HP calculators bad but it wasn't available for civilians (at least not the ballistics version). I wonder what those things cost the .gov at...

He posted "single shot". Mine is as well. It's a long action and mine always seemed funny with a tiny little .222 fed into it.

    C.O.R.N.Y. virus, Dakota variant....

I have one of these in .222 Rem. Got it on a trade back in the very early 80's. It was my first heavy barreled longish range rifle. Killed lots of rabbits shooting from high points out in the AZ desert off an old even then Harris bipod. Had a Weaver T series scope on it and it provided my...

single most important verdict this century

Hoffer wrote of this back in 1951. Funny (NOT) how prophetic so many books from the past have become. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_True_Believer Part 1. The Appeal of Mass Movements Hoffer states that mass movements begin with a widespread "desire for change" from discontented people who...

How Best to Produce Bevel at Muzzle

I missed the part that you want to do this by hand and not put it back in the lathe. I would not use that tool by hand. Brownells makes similar tools meant for hand use. https://www.brownells.com/guntech/tech-tip-crowning-and-chamfering-a-muzzle/detail.htm?lid=16946...

Piloted crown tool. Available from most reamer makers. Different sizes for the various bore sizes. Interchangeable pilots that use existing reamer pilot bushings. When using apply side pressure to the tool to take up any slack in the bushing as you in-feed.

Bump shoulder with Redding 30BR Body Die for 6 BR

Differing opinions and different ways to skin the cat. I too use Redding S full dies as a body die and a collet die for neck sizing for many cartridges. I once poo poo'd the idea of a collet die for neck sizing but years ago 4Mesh got me thinking and changed my mind. There's a guy that was a...
