    Glueing in the action

I have a new stock that has already been inletted and painted by the maker for a BAT DS BR gun. The inlet is oversize by approx 60 thou all around, maybe more. Would I be right in thinking this needs to be bedded with a regular bedding compound before gluing in? If so I was thinking about...

    6PPC LV weight tolerance.

Can anyone tell me how much over the 10.5lb weight limit is allowed for scale tolerance please? Also does it differ from one organisation to another or is it standard?

Easiest way to true bolt face?

Im not trying to be clever here and say this with respect. If you dont know what the appropriate single point tool would look like for this job or you couldn't work out a set-up for machining then are you capable of setting up and doing this work to the level where you really have improved...

    Does barrel straightness effect accuracy.

Aligning your bullet up to enter the rifling straight is important, after that the next important stage is the moment of exit, none of us can determine the rest of the journey. After that is all in the component choice and load development assuming the barrel, action, stock, trigger, bedding...

    Tikka T3 Action wrench??

Ive removed literally dozens of Tikka actions from M55s through M590/595s to T3s - whats all the fuss about? I can't remember a single one of them giving me any fuss at all, never have I seen the need to cut the barrel. Clamp them across the flats with a decent wrench and if you need to protect...

Truing action: How much total is too much?

If you lost even 0.005" of firing pin fall it would make no difference to how the rifle shot, now maybe if you lost 0.030" or more it might but thats never going to happen truing bolt lugs and received face unless your doing it with an angle grinder!

    Types of front rests

Thanks for your opinion Gene. Im shooting a 50lb heavy gun with a muzzle brake in 6BR or Dasher, it recoils back around 0.625" in the rests. With the SEB joystick I find I can't make small adjustments in one plane without it affecting the other. I use a very small aiming dot and feel that I...

    Types of front rests

I dont know what the name is Jerry but the rest type I'm looking for info on is perfectly legal, I see shooters using them regularly. The ones you have already recommended fit the bill but Im keen to still see or hear about other designs.

    Types of front rests

SEB rests are excellent, buy with confidence. I just want to try having separate elevation and windage adjustments to see if it might help me shoot faster, I wouldn't expect to have to tweek the windage during a string and I wonder if fine elevation adjustments would be able to be done more...

    Types of front rests

Guys, Im currently using a Seb Max for my benchrest heavy gun, I would like to move away from a joystick style of operation to one with separate windage and elevation adjustments and ideally make it myself, I have the skills and facilities. What design do you think works best, can anyone steer...

Disaster.....Barrel Galls in New Bat Action

Its never happened to me yet but the only two times Ive seen it were both on BAT actions, do they have a propensity for galling more than others actions I wonder?

    6mm Wildcat Brass Dimensions

I agree. I use the same method for making my Dasher brass, 0.002" neck tension and a 0.030" jam and that blows the shoulder forward around 20x more than the OPs 0.005" perfectly safely. Can I ask why you suggest a thin coat of sizing wax, what does that do?

Best method to cut barrel before chambering

I agree providing you grind them right, keep them sharp and set them up properly and use appropriate speeds and feeds. Parting can be troublesome for many though and people end up either afraid or lacking in confidence. For those who can't master HSS tool grinding or frankly can't be bothered to...

Best method to cut barrel before chambering

Exactly! Why then did you recommend that the OP use HSS for slow speed parting and warned him away from using a carbide system?

Best method to cut barrel before chambering

What do you consider fine finish work to be?

Best method to cut barrel before chambering

A couple of years ago I started to use an indexable carbide parting system. I now part barrels at 400-800rpm under power feed with either flood coolant or applied from a squeezy bottle. My lathe isn't a huge rigid thing either, its the typical 13x30 Grizzly type that weighs around 1300lbs and I...

    Barrel flush system ???

Can I ask what rotary coupling you use as mine is only rater for 400rpm continuous? I run a manual machine but still can't see why you would ever need to run a barrel at anything near 5000rpm when chambering?

    Barrel flush system ???

There isn't much you can do Lee if the barrel isn't long enough, as for extra time, it takes maybe 3 mins to drill and tap a hole. If your stuck with a muzzle you need to save then make the connection with tubing and hose clips, it will work fine and stay tight under pressure as shown above...
