IF i were to look into Rimfire Benchrest, what would be a good starter rifle without being stupid expensive or stupid cheap? In silhouette this question is usually answered "Anschutz" but i've found that my CZ is a very good starter rifle.

I kept my ammo box and magazines in my coat pocket and held the in my hand immediately prior to loading but i don't think that helps very much. The barrel wouldn't stay warm either and that may have been bigger problem. Even in summer my rifle likes 5-10 round down bore before settling in.

I shoot Rimfire Silhouette not Benchrest (with a capitol B) yet. How do you handle cold weather? We shot in the low 40's today. Does anyone notice an appreciable difference in ammo performance with lower temperatures?

In silhouette i've been told not to clean the barrel; It's a non-issue so don't do it. Maybe a couple of patches but not a brush and that's about it. Thank you, all. I'm in my second year so still facing a huge learning curve. Good Shooting!

Do you chronograph lots of ammunition?

I'm using Hoppe's Copper Solvent to clean the bore. My question about Kroil is not about cleaning but more toward general bore conditioning. Would soaking the bore with a penetrating oil have any benefit?

I've just finished soaking the bore of my .270 with Hoppe's via chamber plug. WOuld there be any purpose or advantage to do the same with Kroil?

DaveT Thanks. I'm not a Benchrester (yet) but I like the site for information. I've learned that Benchresters can be pretty opinionated and pretty grumpy. I'm thinking of weighing cases as much as powder.
