Bought a chronograph from Continental Europe

It's been a week since UPS picked up the chrono and it has yet to start to cross the Atlantic Ocean. First and last time I order gear from Europe, especially since they charged 110 Euros for shipping a pound and a half package.

    About time

Just got an email from Dillon Precision that there were sending me a package. Looks like it will be a .223 carbide sizer die that I ordered for my XL 750. I ordered it on April 21, 2021. Will wonders never cease, only took a little over two years to get it.

    plastic utility boxes

Midway doesn't seem to be carrying those blue plastic boxes (UB-36) that a lot of bullet makers use. Anybody know a source for these and other sized boxes in the line?

    Crossfires

Last weekend at a match I was the subject of a crossfire. This occurred before I had fired any shots on my record tgt. In my attempts to notify anyone I used up too much time and ended up being DQ'd for firing after the command Cease Fire. I am ignorant of what the subject of a crossfire is...

    Hearing on the line

I had some severe problems hearing the commands on the line at the rattlesnake this last weekend. I'm seeking recommendations on amplified hearing protections.

    Powder prices

Brunos has some powders. VV 133 is $740 for 12 lbs. inc shipping and hazmat. That's $61.66 per pound. Ouch! Other powders such as Bullseye and Unique are $58 a lb. Glad I'm not using VV 133 and have tons of Bullseye,Unique, LT32, LT30

    Bi-directional threads

Stumbled across this video just before going to bed. .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDfMI5ahbJI Not sure how you'd use it but interesting. The audio is in Russian but you can see English if you hit the cc button. Near the end of the video you can see nuts with cw and ccw threads going on the...

    Lathe dogs

Bought some drops from Shilen before their move. Planned to use them to try different things on my 12X36 lathe. Picked a up used D-4 dog plate and some lathe dogs. Discovered that the MT5 dead center would not go through the hole in the dog plate. Finally got around to do something about this...

    Loos primer pockets

Loose primer pockets A few weeks a go I was browsing the Uniquetek web site and ordered a pair of primer pocket gauges. Got them a few days ago. Yesterday as I was priming some newly prepped 6 Beggs brass I noticed a few of the primers went in way too easy. My new small primer pocket gauge...

    Fireform 6PPC/6Beggs

I don't have a separate fireform barrel. As I have more than a case of Bullseye I was thinking of using that for fireforming using a felt pellet covered with dental wax to seal. I know some people use Cream of Wheat on top of the powder but I was thinking the felt pellet might work better. Am I...

    Bat B problems

Took the ejector out of the bolt while looking for seating depth. When I went to re-install the ejector I couldn't get the pin to go in and eventually bent it and it broke when I tried to straighten it. Was using a roll pin holder. Got 1/16 roll pins coming from Brownells but nothing the exact...

    Is H4198 a dirty powder?

Have been shooting LT-30 in my 30BR but haven't had good X counts so I decided to try H4198. Shot a VFS match today and started out fairly well scoring 10 X's on the first two targets but dropped to 3 on the third target and 1 on the fourth target. So I decided to clean the barrel before the...

    Touch to Jam

I hear some like to shoot just off "touch" and others at or near "Jam". Had the ejector out of my bolt to do the "Wheeler Engineering" method for finding touch. Re-visited Tony Boyers book to use his method for finding "Jam". Was using Bart's 68gn Ultra bullets. I noticed that Tony used .003...

    Quickload Accuracy

I've had Quickload software for many years but haven't used it as much as I should. I did a "Satterlee" load test yesterday as an experiment with my 30 BR. I fired ten 3 shot groups using H4198 going from 31.7 to 33.5 in .2 increments. I've been trying to cram as much powder as I can into the...

    Vibrating the brass

Was watching some you tube videos on reloading and in one saw a guy use the back end of a toothbrush on a case in his Dillon 650. Assumed he was using it to compact the powder in the case. As I was in the middle of doing some load development for 30 BR with H4198 I decided to see how this might...

    Labradar Service

I sent my Labradar in for service. The USB port for the external power had gotten sloppy. I left the package at a Fedex store around the corner at 4:11 PM yesterday, Thursday. It arrived at Labradar at 10:13 AM today, Friday. I received an email at 10:36 AM saying the unit was repaired and gave...

    Seating off the lands

At lunch yesterday with 6 shooters we had a discussion about seating depth. The caliber was a .308 Sierra 155 gn Palma bullet. The consensus was that you needed to start at .040 off and work back, up to maybe .100. I'm trying to visualize what's going on in the barrel after the primer pops and...

Attaching Sail Tails to wind flags

Just bought a set of sail tails and am wondering about the best way to attach them to my wind flags. Stuff I have been using to attach the tails made out of surveyor tape don't lend themselves to easy removal. Seem to remember someone (Mike Turner?) at the last Raton match had some kind of...

    30 BR barrel

I had a local gunsmith chamber a barrel in 30BR for my HV gun. He isn't a Benchrest gunsmith but seems to have a pretty good reputation. He left the barrel too long but as I wasn't going to shoot it in registered matches I didn't complain. I was there when he did the barrel and I was surprised...
