    HVA (Husqvarna) action

A few years ago an HVA commercial actioned gun followed me home. It was a Sears "Ted Williams" gun in 30-06, which I rebarreled in 6.5x55. After all a Swede should be in a Swede caliber. There are differences between the HVA trigger & standard 98 or 96 triggers, so that they would not fit &...

    etch o matic

Back to the etch-o-matic, Al, Can you deep etch with DC, and then blacken the etch with AC? I'd imagine it would look nice on stainless. Regards, Ron

anyone rechamber a new Rem700 bbl?

I had a chance to put my bore scope in 2 of the recent flat black finished 700 ADL varmint rifles. the bores looked very nice for factory barrels. They must machine OK to get a smooth bore. At the same time, we looked at 2 Savage single shots - one a right/left & the other a dual port. Neither...

    etch o matic

Al, How long did this deep etch take? (Looks like I can't avoid spending some money on this!) Regards, Ron

    etch o matic

My impression is the cheaper etcher only does the AC black etching, while the more expensive one with the transformer will do AC black and DC deep etching. Is this correct? Regards, Ron

    Barrel spinner/ polishing aid

Skeet, I use a slack belt sander, and just rotate the barrel with my hands. The slack belt just follows the barrel's curve. A worn 600 grit belt gives about a mirrow polish - a new 180 or 240 belt gives about a factory Mossberg finish. Regards, Ron

anyone rechamber a new Rem700 bbl?

Al, Yrs ago, I fitted a blued 700 heavy barrel in 222 to a martini action & didn't notice anything different about threading or chambering it. In the scrap pile is a 243 heavy barrel (blued) that I picked up in a trade, but I haven't gotten around to making it a 6BR yet. Is your barrel a flat...

Does anyone hafe experience with dykem water soluble cutting oil?

Does anyone have experience with this product? A friend recently gave me 3 gallons of Dykem "Cling Surface Water Soluble Cutting Oil", part # 26090. I suspect his company bought a case, they sold one, and the rest just sat on the shelf. At a 1-10 to 1-30 dilution ratio, it's a lifetime supply...

    etch o matic

Also Al: Also Al, Are you using the larger etcher with the separate transformer for the deep etch? You're a bad man - if you keep posting pictures of your markings, you'll force me to buy an etch-o-magic! Regards, Ron

    etch o matic

Blued surfaces How does the etch-o-matic work on blued surfaces or surfaces blued afterward? I've look at these units several times, but not bought one yet. Regards, Ron

    Bore Scope Help

I've had good luck with a ordinary point & click digital camera. You just have to watch the screen on the back as you center & focus the image. If you choose a camera with a 1/4" threaded hole for a tripod, you can fabricate a bracket to fasten the camera to the eye piece to keep the camera &...

alinwa the safety geek broke the rules tonite.....

Al, Hope you're feeling better. Many yrs ago in the chem lab, I had a piece of glassware break in my left hand. It didn't hurt until I saw something white (bone) in the cut. The thing that did hurt was the lidocaine injections before they stitched up my hand! My wife had a similar accident...

    Rem 600 vs model 7

Way back when in the '70's, Tom Seitz used to make LV rifles on the XP100 action. I THINK he used converted 700 2 oz triggers by Burns. These were wood stocked rifles so I think they were screwed in, not glued. He may have drilled the action for another screw. I wish I'd had him make me one...

    Mann accuracy device

Tyler, You need to get a copy of Franklin Mann's book. The device is essentially a V (essentially a channel iron) that is adjustable with mechanical front & rear rests . The barreled action rests in the V on cylindrical sections that are turned on the barrel. Harry Pope made many special...

    Rem 600 vs model 7

Thanks, Butch. That's what I needed to know. I guess I'll leave the 600 as is & use a 700 short action on my grandson's rifle. Regards, Ron

    Rem 600 vs model 7

Perhaps I should rephrase the question: Are the action screws in the same place on a 600 and a model 7?

    Model 70

There are several different styles of model 70's, some with coned bolts & some with flat bolts. Some will require an extractor cut in the barrel. Which do you have? Regards, Ron

    Rem 600 vs model 7

Will the rem model 7 bottom metal fit the 600 action? I picked up a 600 Mohawk (no rib on the barrel) in 308 that's essentially new. It shoots well & I'd like restock it for a grandson with the model 7 trigger guard & floor plate. He actually likes the dogleg bolt handle! Merry Christmas, Ron

    Shorten bar barrel....????

He's talking about a modern BAR hunting rifle. John Moses never touched that one. Anyway, I used to hunt with a friend used a shortened BAR sporter 30-06 & he had no problem. Even if he were talking about a 1918 BAR, I've read that back in the 30's, Bonnie & Clyde would shorten BAR's to make...
