Leupold MK4 scope - best prices

Rich, I'm not sure it's legal to export riflescopes without an export license, but I would check Brunos shooting supply for their scope prices. Their customer service is not very good, but their prices are. Ben...

    New Lathe

You can look at it with an electron microscope, but at the end of the day, it doesn't make a hill of beans. When I started chambering, I would dig out my thread mic and mag glass. Now, I just go to depth, and go another .005", do a cleanup pass and try the action. This rifle shoots tiny...

    BAT action truing?

I think he needs more information than just "check it" Thats pretty vague. The best advise nobody has given is to build the rifle, shoot it, and go from there. Focus on the chambering, bedding, optics, reloading etc. Ben

    New Lathe

here are some threads I cut on mine, a couple years ago, no recent pics. But I think they are ok, maybe people on here will disagree?

Eddie, Can you post a close up picture of your threads? And your tool post setup. Ben

    BAT action truing?

When a craftsman picks one up and handles it, they know the answer to such questions.

    Grizzly 4003G Lathe

Are the slide wedges adjusted? A loose wedge causes chatter and vice versa.

    Threading question

Johnd, I see nobody Answered your questions, and were sidetracked into threading prowess. You can clean up the thread slightly by in feeding a couple thou with the cross. Essentially, this is what is done every pass when you leave 1/2 degree between the angle of the tool and compound. This...

    Grizzly 4003G Lathe

Turbine bearings and bevel gearboxes, roller bearing are different animals. I have used ts90 in gearboxes for many years, with engineering support from the oems, lubricant suppliers etc. It's something to look into if your concerned with noise and fretting of the faces. My g4003g runs fine...

Free Floating of the forarm is it absolutly essential

Yes, in the context of precision shooting.

    Grizzly 4003G Lathe

Its good engineering practice too change and inspect gearbox oil after a few hours of operation, or if there is significant gearbox noise heat or vibration. Bevel gears are inherently noisy, but that's not always an indication of failure or immenent failure. In some machines I have added...

    30x47 Lapua

I built a 30x47 variant for my HBR rifle. I have the spec for it in the archives if your interested. You use a .308 reamer, held back a little. This allows me to use a .308 die, I cut short. I expand up the 6,5x47 brass for the cases, much easier than all the trimming required as virg mentions...

    Keyholeing Problem with Remington 22-250

The group is shocking, actually. Imagine the hole in the coyote, when that bullet hit going sideways.

Can you put a Rem 260 in a long action?

Kevin, You'll find the 6,5x47, 6,5x55 and 6,5x284 is preferred by most here, based on the availability of Lapua brass. A shortcoming of the 260 rem in some peoples opinion.

    Suggestions for a short-actioned all-around rifle?

Kevin, I think its a great choice. I've built two 6,5x47L's in the last two months. This last one was with an Rem XR-100 action. I put a krieger 8 twist in rem vt contour. Brunos had it in stock. I'm taking it hunting next week in S. Tx. I changed bullets from 123 scenar coated to uncoated and...

    EDM Chambering

Ok, traditional machining induces stress and removes stress, everyone knows that anyway? A couple of questions: On fluting...How much does the barrel move from fluting (416), in the real world. has anyone measured before and after? Has anyone tried EDM fluting?

    polishing a barrel?

Blasted and cerakote holds up well to bbl changing. Bake it on hard. Emmissivity of surfaces varies with materials and finishes moreover color. I.e. Matte finishes transfer heat better than glossy. All finishes tend to insulate, so the real question is ....does the insulation negate the...

    Repairing a Barrel Crown

I cannot recall who made the comment that a crown was over emphasized in terms of accuracy...but I am moving to that school of thought myself as I spend more time accurizing rifles. If it's affecting accuracy, it's a big ding that you would not need 10x to see. As mentioned, the bore would be...

    6,5x47 Lapua build, finally

I've been wanting to build one for a while, so I finally sucked it up, and chucked up a Broughton 8 twist bbl I've had for a while and went to work. Faced off a 700 SA on a mandrel, shilen trigger, bedded into a mcmillan stock, cerakote, scope and Voila. I had a new toy. Stuffed some 123 scenar...
