What Do You DO When You Like Velocity LT 32 Lot 6

Just curious, why do you want more velocity?

    Exactly.

    bat actions

Why not? Why send your problem down the road for someone else to diagnose? Why not make sure it's right in house before you send it out. Factory guns are proof tested. Why don't some custom builders? Borden actions were mentioned earlier. I believe I read once that Jim tests every...

    bat actions

All is fine and dandy until it's not. If you're one of the few that got a not, then your viewpoint can and will change! The lucky ones never know how lucky they are. That's all I'm saying....;)

    bat actions

I agree completely. Many of them don't even function test their actions before they box them up and ship them out. I know because I've seen them. In a world where you can be sued because you put too hot of coffee into a customer's cup, there are action makers out there that send out actions...

    bat actions

I would have to agree! I've been doing this long enough to see problems come from every custom action maker in the bizz. Just last month, I saw a "major player" forget to make the last pass on the lug raceways resulting in an impossibility of loading any ammo through the top into the magazine...

    Landsend match ?

They had their spring shoot a little early this year. It was a couple weeks before the Springville match. Joe told me why it happened that way but I can't remember what it was exactly. Something about Tom being busy on the normal weekend. Mid Continent region has a jam packed schedule. Lots...

    FISS 2015 2-Gun

Hey, by the way, since the SS isn't a registered match anymore, I'm guessing that they don't ask the status of your NBRSA or IBS membership do they?;):D

    FISS 2015 2-Gun

That makes sense. I know several folks out this way who didn't go this year for various reasons. Still, we scratch and pull to get 33 shooters at our benchrest matches. Then you see 200+ guys show up for a .22 match that's just a fun shoot and it makes me wonder if BR is really doing all...

Best of West 100 Yard LV & HV

I guess he didn't bring his teen agging AR15 since his aggs were 5 and 8 times bigger than that! Maybe he'll find a way up off the bottom today.... But I must admit I won't be shocked if he doesn't.

New scale affords opportunity for measure technique refresher/practice

The only folks who need scales accurate to .01 grain are gold diggers and crack sellers. If you're using a scale like that for reloading, you'd have to have a set of micro sized pill cutters to cut kernels of powder in half, and even then, you, nor your gun, would be able to tell any...

Hottenstein boat tails and neck clearance

Yeah, I think Lowell has two dies. A Simonson and a Duetch. I think these bullets are from the Simonson. I hope the barrels like 'em!

Hottenstein boat tails and neck clearance

Thanks for the replies thus far. Anyone else? I know lots of folks shoot these bullets......somebody somewhere has had to "go below the eight" on this.....

Hottenstein boat tails and neck clearance

Sorry George, it should work now. My inbox got flooded when I posted the action thread awhile ago. Thanks.

Hottenstein boat tails and neck clearance

I am making brass for five different barrels, two of which are not mine, and two of which were made with a reamer other than my own, and one that hasn't been chambered yet. I know what my reamers measure, the other barrels I won't know. That's why I'd prefer more clearance than less. Error on...

Hottenstein boat tails and neck clearance

I'm prepping up a batch of brass to be used with Lowell's BT bullet, and upon measuring them, I find that they're pretty darn fat. Almost .244". If I turn the necks for a .262" chamber at my normal .0081", the loaded round at the pressure ring is just a hair over .260" giving me less than...

    BIG difference in LT-32 lots

I think it's great that Lou is getting all these powder companies busy making powders for us. Kudos to him. But as I've said before, if you've got expectations of magic pixie dust in a can, you WILL be disappointed. Take powder at face value. It will go boom, but it won't set the world on...

    Are Machinists Skills Necessary?

That's disheartening. Have you noticed any problems with that foreign steel that you didn't used to see with our domestic stuff? I used to have a steel mill right in my backyard. It basically was this town. It was the largest employer in my whole county. Everybody worked there. Everybody...

13.5 twist vs. 14 twist / boat tail vs flat base

I had a chat with TB about twists once. He was playing with gain twists and Berger Column bullets at the time. I was shooting really short boat tails in 14" twists. He said that if he lived where I live (4500'), he'd never order anything but 15" twists. I thought he meant for the short...
