    Barrell length/velocity relationship?

Sorry Andy, but you are wrong. Boyle's law does not apply here at all. It is not that complicated. In a "normal" cartridge/powder combination (not 5gr of BullsEye in a 300WM)... the pressure peaks at about 6 to 8 inches, and that is the place of maximum acceleration rate... but past the peak...

    Carbon ring removal research opportunity

Carbon doesn't dissolve in ANYTHING (Google it). The black stuff we see is more of an ash, made up of primer residue, partially burnt, un-sublimated nitrocellulose, and complex compounds left behind from burning deterrents, and some carbon. There is no easy way to wash it out. I use a...

    Rem 40X-BR in 222

I bought a new HV version in January, 1975, with a 26" x 0.955" x14t barrel, in 222 Magnum. I put a Unertl scope on it and campaigned it for a few years. It shot very well, and always made me look better than I really was. It was(is) a very predictable rifle, with no bad habits or...

    6ppc feed in a rem 700SA

I have a 6mmPPC 700SA that was built by a smith at Mo Defino's (sp?) some years ago. Originally it was a 223 varmint. The top of the magazine follower was modifed (it has one of the solid followers, not the stamped ones), and it was cut short at the rear. There is a plastic block filler in...

bullet jacket failure on Top Shot

Not vapor - If you have a paper target, then you can see the black spirals of led at the holes. I have had bunches of targets like that.

    30-06 point of impact change

I think what was meant should have been obvious... ... but to clarify for any misunderstanding. Lower velocity will cause lower impacts on the target, which will over ride the increase in launch angle caused by the increase in recoil before the bullet exits the barrel.

    30-06 point of impact change

Your revolver is shot at close range, so gravity has little effect, so the hevier bulet has a longer barrel transit time, and the revolver recoils more. Also, barrel whip does not enter the picture.. With a rifle, the larger bullet will cause the barrel to rise a bit more, but the lower...

    FL Carbide die

I own a Dillon 223 Carbide die, and I am not a AR shooter - it is the finest made die I have ever owned. The insides have a mirror finish, and cases coming out of it look brand new. The insides have a mirror finish, and

    243 ackley

The case length of the 243 AI fired case will be 15 to 20 thou shorter than the original parent case. If you have a shortness of 15 to 20 thou, plus the original extra in the chamber, you will easily have 20 or more thou of free space before you get to the end of the chamber with your fired...

    Neck sizing issues

Yes... that is one of the 45° bushings. They will replace it. I used to buy the TiN bushings, but no more. Now I buy the steel bushings and polish them with a new "feed ramp". When I look at a neck after the bushings have been re-polished, you can't even see that they have been sized.

    Alabama has voted to********

And I remember when the states won that battle, and a few went to 85 and one had no limit at all for several years, until THEY picked their own limit. Most states have buckled in the past, they there is a different mood in the country now, and many states are going against the government, and...

    Neck sizing issues

Some 12-ish years ago, I was neck sizing 300 WM cases for a 1,000 yard match rifle - it had a great barrel and it was (and still is) extremely accurate, but the fired neck was about ~9-10 thou larger than the loaded neck. I discovered that if the fired neck was large, in relationship to the...

    Neck sizing issues

That is not all that unusual. It comes from the edge of the neck section (or bushing) being to square and not rounded enough. About 1/3 of my dies did it. Now, I polish the edges of the bushings and it does not happen anymore.
