Do any of the Rimfire Benchrest organizations dominate in the Houston, TX area? I'm looking to get started and thought that equipment lists from local competitions would help.

Any recommendations on a rifle that will compete in both Benchrest and Sillouhette? Does such a creature exist? How about a scope to go with it? How about a front rest for benchrest that will cover both rimfire and centerfire?

I understand what you guys are saying about getting started with the right gear but I can get more use out of a "factory class" rifle than a competition grade rifle. My goal in any shooting competition is to improve my ability in the field with field grade equipment. It's the indian not the arrow.

I'm thinking about getting into Factory/Stock class and am looking at Savage rimfire rifles. They are using the Accutrigger and "look" OK. Does anyone have experience with Savage rimfire rifles?

I don't have $3,500 for a rifle $1,000 for a scope, etc, etc. When I visited the Tomball Gun Club last summer someone named Jackie said "come on out, we don't care what you shoot" Maybe I do mean "b"enchrest and not "B"enchrest but this is how you get new shooters into the fold.
