    Chamber polishing

Actualy Jerry thats not realy correct and is a bit of an old wifes tale. The chamber pressure is applied to the rear inside face of the brass case. The soft brass case is no match for 60,000 PSI and will stretch easily, so 99% of the load will be transfered to the bolt head regardless of how...

    Will your scope do this?

Are you sure? Seeing his comments on some other forums of late i could be fooled into thinking the "a." stood for something else entirely... ;) Leeroy

    Thread relief on tenon

Actualy it works, and it probably works better than most rotary phase converters! You are dead right about the programmable ramp down and back up, but that is only part of the story. Most modern VFD's offer dynamic braking and can be equiped with a suitable brake resistor. Once they are set up...

Are you shooting 1k BR with a gun equipped with an ejector or without?

I designed and built my own action and i incorporated a drop port into the bottom of the receiver. Initialy it was sized for the little BR case but as the rifle took shape i changed my mind and lengthened the port to take a longer case. Right now it'll drop the 284 Shehane cases i'm shooting...

    Rem 700 Ejector

G'day Folks.. I know this is a BR forum but i've been having an issing with a rem 700 Hunting rifle. It's been chambered in 223 rem and i have been having the usual problem of dented case mouths from the Rem ejector causing the case to cant over on extraction and smack into the receiver wall...

Anyone assemble barrels to actions without any lube?

Why stainless in the first place? With all this talk of barrel threads and bolt lugs galling one realy has to wonder why manufactures persist in making receivers from stainless in the first place. Yes they do look nice and shiny and do offer some (limited) corosion protection but given the...

    Action Material

Yes mate that is how i did it. I didn't trust the local heat treat shop to do it without distortion so i machined it after heat treatment. Ok for one or two but far too hard on the tooling for production.. It's been great. On to the second bbl now. Moving up from the 6.5x47L to a 7mm...

    Action Material

I built my action from EN26. I'm not sure what the SAE equiviliant is, but according to my steel supplier (bohler) it's stronger and tougher (for a given hardness) than 4340. By all accounts it does the job perfectly and acording to my calculations has a 600% safety factor. See it here...

ANOTHER floating reamer holder question & a prebore question

Yep your right Butch, about the possibility of the tail stock barrel being out of alignment when extended. But with my lathe i have found it to be very accurate and if i just put a little pressure on with the barrell lock it stays within about 0.0005" all the way to full extention. I usualy set...

ANOTHER floating reamer holder question & a prebore question

Is it realy required? I realise in this BR game we should always strive for perfection but i've never really been able to understand the need for a floating reamer holder. I've chambered up about a dozen bbl's now, non of them have any runout or are out of round, none of them have any chatter...

Reaming out SR primers to LR?

G'day all. I've got about 150 used 6.5x47 Lapua cases with over sized primer pockets that i would like to put back into service. I've done a bit of reading on pocket swageing and have come to the conclusion that it's realy not a viable method. But i then wondered of i couldn't ream them out...

Muzzel brake for 1K BR or not?

G'day gentlemen I am rebarrleing my 1k BR rifle from a 6.5x47 Lap to a 284 Shehane and was thinking about adding a muzzel brake. Out here in OZ brakes a pretty rare (at least in our club) and i'm wondering are they very common in US 1K BR? I am worried about the brake effecting the pure...

    Bolt Fluting???

G'day all I have just finished blueprinting an old rem 700 action for a .223 hunting rifle i'm building.. On all of my customised 700's i've always jewled the bolt and it has made it super slick to cycle the bolt. I'm planing to cerakote the entire barreled action and i don't think that jewling...
