    cartridge bullet runout

Runout Has anyone used a Bersin Gage? It is caliber specific, measures runout on seated bullets and you can correct runout by gently pushing against bullet with a dial until it is straight. Readings are seen on a dial indicator. It is time consuming but produces runouts of <.001. I won the...

What Causes Sideways Muzzle Jump During Recoil?

Muzzel jump (recoil) About 15 years ago my late friend, Paul Brown, a college mathematics and physics professor, machinist and benchrest shooter, wrote an article in Varmint Hunter about "straight line recoil". His explanations and diagrams showed how it could be achieved. Most guns recoil...

Free recoil vs a hard or medium hold?

How does one "free recoil" a rifle with a 1, 2 or 3 lb trigger pull?? Is it possible to fire a gun with factory triggers at 3 to 5 lbs without moving the rig all over the target? 2 oz. benchrest triggers YES but one hole with a 300 mag and free recoil sounds ...aah..difficult.

    Annealing machines

Check out The Woodchuck Den. Todd lists an annealing tip that uses a 16 oz propane bottle for $51. I made several duplicates for less than $10 each. With a little practice they work very well.

    6PPC cracked necks

PPC Brass What brand of brass? Are you using a bushing die for neck sizing? Are you neck sizing close to .260? Brass that is not annealed will split much easier than annealed brass.

    neck tension 22br

Mic them If you have not miked the neck thickness of all the brass and separated them (or neck turned them), you cannot get consistent tension with the same bushing. The different times fired also gives different spring back unless you anneal them.

    Sinclair/L. E. Wilson Micro-Adjust Bullet Seater

Yes. Very accurate and repeatable and adjustable. Can be used on other Wilson seater bodies of same caliber bullets. Used with a bullet comparator, it is a very valuable tool.

    Sako 22PPC neck sizing

Sako 22 ppc I just measured 20 new 22PPC factory cartridges from Sako. They all are .247 neck size. My 3 22PPC barrels yield fired Lapua brass neck diameters of .250 (Ruger) .251(Hart) and 251(McGowen). Chamber diameters will run about .001 more than fired cases. I will guess your Sako chamber...

    New Cooper

My newest Cooper in 6PPC produced a .157 5 shot group in a 100 yd Benchrest match this summer with hastily assembled ammo. My 17 MIV Cooper has produced .250 groups in light wind conditions many times. My vote goes to Cooper for the most accurate factory rifles from this country. Sako challenges...

    H 335 powder

H335 I shot H335 in my 6ppc Cooper last summer with mostly 1/2 MOA groups. 27 to 28 gr under 68 to 70 gr Barts and Speers. Velocity was 2800 to 2950. Just a little slower than V133 with same amount of powder. These were fireform loads since I was getting low on V133.

    17 Fireball Powder

17 Fireball (17 MachIV) When I got a Cooper MIV, I got a box of ammo from Cooper. It was 20 gr VMax. Was told powder was 19 gr H-335. I loaded 100's or rounds to this spec and shot most 100 yd groups in the 1/4 to 1/2 inch range with 20 and 25 gr Bergers and Kindler's 25 Gold bullets. For...

    Sako 6PPC rifle

+1 on Sako 6PPC. I shot mine in Factory class 6 times with 4 firsts and 2 seconds. Acquired a Cooper 6PPC and beat my Sako on the first competition. Most aggs were in the low .4's.

    Neck Turning Question

For a .330 chamber neck you need .010 brass to give you .001 clearance. Measure the loaded round to make sure it comes out to .328. Use 2 passes to achieve an accurate smooth cut. Take off about .0015 on first pass and .0005 on final pass. After 1 or 2 firings, you may want to take off .0005...

    brass holder for neck turning

I use a mini lathe ( a GE Mina-gear 152 rpm fan cooled motor with a 3 jawed self centering chuck that holds my brass very straight usually with no visible wobble. The motor was wired with a capacitor and a reversing on-off switch. With 2 or 3 neck turners set up to cut about .001 at a time and...

6PPC Neck for Norma and Lapua Brass

I'm confused by some of your statements. Are you reaming or neck turning to achieve the .010 neck thickness?? Both brands will work fine. If the pressure ring gives you .2635 loaded rounds, you may want to cut necks to .0092 to .0095. Since brass thickness varies, a ball mic and an outside...
