    Barrel flush system ???

I drill and tap the muzzle end, its fast and makes a secure connection when sealed with something like a Dowty washer. You will be removing an inch of the muzzle at least anyway so it doesn't cost you anything.

    Engineering question:

OK so heres a question. Could barrel to action torque have an effect on barrel harmonics and ultimately accuracy? I dont suppose any of use would expect much from a hand tightened barrel on a match rifle so could there be an optimum torque? Or more likely could there be a minimum that we need...

    Norma 6 Dasher

Guys, Is there any reason why I would not be able to lengthen the neck on my existing Dasher chamber to run the new Norma brass? My existing neck is .271" and I have a .272" chucking reamer that Im thinking would be fine with unturned Norma Dasher brass? I dont want to throat again so the...

Tuners what do you think about my first one?

Thanks for your input guys, I have made a tuner that weighs 12oz for a 30" 1.250" diameter barrel. My current load for this rifle (105Hybrids from a 6 Dasher) is decent, 5 shots into the mid 0.2s but I will try the tuner on with that and see if it can be tuned any? If I do any new load...

Tuners what do you think about my first one?

Confused... Guys, Can you tell me where I introduce the tuner? My load development usually consists of an OCW test where I monitor ES and assess the bullet/powder combo by looking for a stable POI, when happy I choose my OCW then fine tune things with a seating depth test and then once I find...

Tuners what do you think about my first one?

Tuner Applications? Thanks for a great thread guys, as always it has raised more questions. Are there certain applications where the effect of a tuner is more noticeable and has a greater effect on results? For example; Would a tuner work just as well on a 1000yd heavy gun with a 1.250"...

    Muzzle Break Design

Guys, Im looking to make a muzzle brake for a 600/1000 yard bench rest light gun in 6.5x47. Ive never made a muzzle brake before, I see the pepper pot style and also others. Is there any info out there regarding what if any types have a detrimental effect on accuracy and what dont, best shapes...

    Good Floating Reamer Holder

Guys, I moved this subject to its own thread so as to not lose it in this one. http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?96835-Setting-up-the-bore

    Setting up the bore?

Great question Dave and one which deserves a thread of its own I feel.

Saw an interesting Youtube last evening:

You dont have to live in the US to have the right of an opinion and Im certainly all for that. I f you have a machine and a specific requirement that allows you to replace the compound with a solid tool post then again I have no issues in that regard if it works for him. My issue is how he makes...

Saw an interesting Youtube last evening:

Im now questioning how we ever managed with frail compounds for all these years. On any lathe the compound and/or the tool post is quite often the least rigid part of our tool holding set-up yet I still manage both heavy cuts and good accuracy with mine as will most others. Sometimes I see...

Holding the reamer with a pusher

    Oversize Chamber

    Thanks for your thoughts guys.

    Oversize Chamber

Yes, I would agree Jerry but if your tailstock centre is very close then it shouldn't be an issue. I check my tailstock about once a month by turning between enters over 18" - taper is kept to less than 0.0005" over that distance which would mean much less at the distances between centers that...

    Oversize Chamber

With respect Al I can't discuss anything with you, you ramble or talk in riddles far too much for me :)

    Oversize Chamber

I dont disagree with this at all. That said my question was about what you describe as a slight amount of oversize, I wonder how many rifle builders actually check for this? I see lots of videos showing low runout figures but nothing about oversize. Ive chambered a couple of barrels since I...

    Oversize Chamber

I clocked the reamer Mike as you suggest, unsupported but pushed to the bottom of the chamber and with the stylus maybe an inch from the chamber mouth which I guess will also give a bigger reading that the chamber mouth. Interestingly I cut another but this time I didn't apply any preload on...

    Oversize Chamber

Could I ask in which cases it would be enough to be significant as you used the term 'most cases' rather than 'all cases'

    Oversize Chamber

OK, thanks for that Jerry. I dont build bench rest rifles, Im more into long range varminters or accurate hunting rifles where brass will be specific to one chamber and never need to be interchanged. I figured that it shouldn't make any difference to anything as the brass will form to its...

    Oversize Chamber

I understand and accept that the idea is not to have our reamers cutting oversize but please humour me guys, how much oversize, if any would be acceptable? I ask this because yesterday I tried cutting a chamber on a scrap blank end using a collet chuck in my tailstock to hold the reamer instead...
