Life Advice to Your Young Child?

Whatever advice you offer to a young person should be short and simple because they probably won't listen any way. My wise old uncle could offer the best advice in the fewest words and I would listen. I was telling him about something growling in a tight cave. I suggested we might try to pull the growling thing out and he told me this that I have never forgot, "Never pull anything out that you can't push back in". I have never forgot his wise and quick life advice. My uncle did not speak often but when he did, i listened.

Most children now days don't even grow up with a Father in there lives folks.
Without having one they really don't have a chance in life.
But then again most now days are not even Father's at all now Day's.
And these young folks will now turn to the un-desriables on the streets as being the Father figures they just do not have.
All are looking for Love and Acceptance and then they just unfortunately get used for the monetary benefit to the low lives who could give a ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ********** if they live or die. Or to possibly just continually grow up in Prison's for someone who could give a ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ********** less about their lives.

When I was working in South Korea providing AF at Osan support I was not allowed to go any closer than Osan to the DMZ.

YOU, as a parent or an older respected friend, BE/SET AN EXAMPLE!! No BS, just the facts! Treat folks like you would want them to treat you. It's the "Do Unto Other's" thing.

Integrity is what you do when no one is looking.

I still remember when we had a government witness for some equipment testing for TEMPEST.

He commenced making "sly remarks" about my black "work wife" Linda.
She was like my left hand more or less doing anything I asked.

After I had a brief conversation with MY boss/program manager he called the government.
Never saw the POS again.
Linda new something had happened, and finally just asked me in private.
She said "He just had a bade vibe and made her uncomfortable."
I told her about the remarks he made that she was not supposed to hear.

She said that kind of crap is pretty hard to hide, and she had noticed he was talking to me 'privately' right in front of her.
A big red flag.
She was about 14 to 15 years older than I was, and we had a very good relationship.
She only had a high school education, but was eager to learn.
She was not going to become an engineer, but was a terrific detail person.
I could give her a schematic and a parts list and she could reliably make sure nothing was missing from the list.
When you have a more than 20 page schematic making sure everything is on the accompanying parts list.
The back was analog switched capacitor filters of different bandwidths with phase equalization.
The front was a digital multiplexer to drop the data into a T-1 (1.536 MHz) composite bit-stream.

We had created what worked the same as a Central Office phone system with a far higher density.
When you are mucking around with 64 channels of variable bandwidth data things get
complicated pretty fast.
And then you have to control and monitor hundreds of separate channels from half way around the globe
with the inherent time delays of the communications links ground to ground across the USA.
Air to air half way around the glob.
A final satellite to airplane link.
Then reverse the 'take' of the system back to the USA.
Luckily the forwards command system does not have nearly the bandwidth requirements of the returning
intercept data.
Low MHz up, high GHz back. with signal compression.
With both ways encrypted.

While you might recognize the links, especially the return link as being a phone link, if you tried to actually listen it was just noise.
Even the simple barking code (1010/0101) for framing was encrypted.
The return link used crypto generated 'black key' that changed every frame for synchronization.
That means Time of Day (TOD) had to match at each end of the data link and at all stops in between.

The schematic software could extract a parts list, but a manual check of the extracted parts list was required.
A 4 in x 4 in printed wiring board with parts covering both sides could easily run to many hundreds of parts.
An 8 x 9 boards thousands on each side.
E-4 139.264 Mbps (output from the front, E-1 (1.536 Mbps)'
A E4 is the equivalent of 2,176 8 kHz channels.
While the link allocation is in 8kHz units, you can allocate many channels to a single path through the system to get bandwidths large enough to handle channels of many MHz.

Some of the above posts appear to obscure whatever advice is offered; thus, I want to restate my first bit of advice -- and offer some more.

1. Be nice to people.
2. Do not covet.
3. Do most things in moderation.
4. Be productive at something you like that helps people.

OK...... I absolutely agree with the sentiment.

And I've carried a lot of water.

And my parents made me carry a lot of water.

And my parent's friends beat them up for it cuz "Dr Spock" and "equality" and other tripe.

And my generation has carried their kid's water for them, "protected them" from having to carry the water.....

Not giving your kid a bucket is a sick form of guilt, and carrying the bucket for them is child abuse.

While my son was in Sangin a local hero was chatting my up in a public venue and asked me "how's the boy doing", I told him "he's fine." The hero pressed the issue..... I told him "he's FINE. He might get hurt, he might lose pieces, he might get dead but he's FINE!"

And he couldn't let go.....

He asked "how do you know that?"..... "Do you KNOW the suicide rate of veterans? ..... How do you know he'll be OK.

So I told him.....

"He had to kill his own cat"

It took the poor fellow several minutes but he finally looked up at me with the things behind his eyes all crowding forward and choked out "You're SICK!!" He wobbled off, shoulders hunched and shaking.

We haven't spoken since.

And my son is fine.

boy, did that post bring back a memory!

when i was very young and could barely carry a single shot .22 my pup got hit on the road by the local veterinarian. yea, the vet. who did not stop to offer to save the pup with 2 broken back legs.

dad told me to take him down in the field and shoot him. and i did. life lesson. for sure.

Reminds me of when I moved my family to the country.
City neighbor asked if I could take his dog, Australian Shepherd cross with us.
If you pulled up in the driveway, he wouldn't let you out of the car and he would stand between you and the kids.
Wouldn't come into the house. Lay by the front door guarding the house.

It snowed so we went across the street to slide on the hill.
Dog ran up the hill and in a few minutes came down with blood on his snout.
Checked it out and he had just run down and killed a new lamb.
He had in the past brought home steaming rabbits. Lamb/rabbit?? Same thing to him.

Made a few calls to Vets and being the weekend, got no answer. This was back in the early 70s.
Only one thing to do. Told the wife to take the girls in the house and keep them busy for a while.
Took the dog out back and shot him, buried him in the snow. Kids didn't talk to me for a few days but they survived.
Wouldn't wish that job on anyone!!

Friend called and asked me to come over. Wanted me to shoot his sick dog. Took a while but I finally did the deed.
Told him, "If your wife ever gets sick, DON'T CALL ME"!!
