After a week, some version of the Golden Rule appears to be the most suggested advice in the above posts. Assuming the result would be the same in a statistically valid sample of society, I wonder why there are so many broken promises and so much cheating, lying, stealing, thuggery, etc. Maybe some folks didn't hear the Golden-Rule advice?

There are bad people in this world. I feel some are just born that way.
I had the best parents ever. I was a terrible son until in my 40's when I finally saw the light. I spent the rest of my Dad's life trying to make up for it. Just because you give great life advise don't mean nothing if they don't follow it. I do not believe every kid can be saved. There are definitely some wonderful kids in this world.

Sorry to continue to drag this out but my wife and I spend our entire lives combatting this mindset. If we as adults accept the idea that some kids are "born bad" then it follows that children will hear and more importantly believe it.
This is a desecration.
Nope, can't go there...... I will never accept nor will I ever let slide the idea that some kids are just "bad seeds"
I am a Godly man, an American Man, a parent, a teacher and most importantly an example.

Barring that it's just another general statement to the world-at-large, a reinforcement of your world-view. I took it as a continuation of your original argument that "being nice" (by your definition) could solve the world's problems..... you then reinforced your argument by using The Hillbillary's position re "Dreamers" and dreaming to refute my post.....which BTW you DID quote, in direct opposition to my position

There is no give in truisms.... no perpetuation of the flawed belief that "it will all work itself out". Truisms point to the fallibility of human nature. I often have to tell people in my life "DUDE! No, that situation didn't "work itself out"... some of us who care got together and PAID YOUR WAY ....we worked it out, WE fixed your bad decision"
Life does not "work out".....things do not "get better"..... problems need be dealt with.
Nope, some of us have to step up and say it..... "YOUR KID is YOUR FAULT, your choices are to deal with it, or run away"
There is a third option, the one I rail against, have been railing against for 50 yrs....The option most often excercised by so-called "responsible adults" is the old "I did the best I could with him, he's just an ungrateful sod, it's not my fault"
Most college tuition should more accurately be called "repatriation". Or "penance".... and it's paid by pietists in an attempt to excorcize guilt.

get a good education, preferably at a private school that is not into brainwashing kids with socialist ideas
make sure your parents give you a good quality .22 RF rifle at perhaps 10 and teach you firearms safety and respect for your quarry
take an NRA hunter safety course
decide if college is for you, or if you are better off in the trades. if college, for God's sake major in something that will give you skill and knowledge in something you can parlay into a good job...chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science
stay away from sociology, psychiatry and music. you can always take music lessons
Keep up an interest in politics for the politicians, some of them, want to rule your life
Understand the constitution and the bill of rights, oppose those who promote socialism, globalism and remember you are a citizen of the United States of America, the greatest country in civilized man's history.
study history for you are doomed to repeat it if you don't
