Shelby County Briar Hail Memorial Match Recap

The fourth match on the NBRSA Eastern Region schedule for 2021, and one I refuse to miss, was the Briar Hail Memorial Match at the Shelby County Deer Hunter's Association in Port Jefferson, Ohio.

Twenty-two benchrest shooters participated which is a solid turn-out and an increase from the past couple. We also had 3 shooters participate in their first registered match here this past weekend which was awesome. The weather was hot and humid, with enough wind to produce a big group if you're not paying attention.

Saturday morning DeWayne "Woody" Wood and his hot shooting new 3L/Bat stocked rifle took down the LV100 Agg with a .2134. Here are your top 5 and small group in the Agg:

    LV100
    1. DeWayne Wood .2134
    2. Victor Potts .2184
    3. Lee Hachigian .2190
    4. Jack Neary .2246
    5. Lacy Tilley .2394

    SG. Bob Hawkins .121

Saturday afternoon, Steve Theye (the Benchrite guy!) won the HV100 Agg with a .2182. Here are the top 5 and small group in the Agg:

    HV100
    1. Steve Theye .2182
    2. Lee Hachigian .2208
    3. Brian Robinson .2316
    4. James Esarey .2420 (first registered NBRSA match!)
    5. DeWayne Wood .2432

    SG. Ken Hottenstein .113

Sunday brought even higher temps but that didn't seem to bother Lee Hachigian, who took down the HV200 Agg with a nice .2356. Here are the top 5 and small group in the Agg:

    HV200
    1. Lee Hachigian .2356
    2. Mike Johnson .2373
    3. Ken Hottenstein .2608
    4. Jack Neary .2627
    5. Tim Humphreys .2684

    SG. Ken Hottenstein .197

Lee also won the HV Grand handily with a .2282. Here are your top 5 in the Heavy Varmint Grand:

    HV Grand
    1. Lee Hachigian .2282
    2. Steve Theye .2508
    3. Mike Johnson .2573
    4. Ken Hottenstein .2665
    5. Jack Neary .2713

Sunday afternoon, Lacy Tilley showed us age is just a number, taking down the LV200 with an excellent .2167! That pretty Leonard stocked Bat shoots as good as it looks and Lacy has been driving it well this year. Here are your top 5 and small group in the Agg:

    LV200
    1. Lacy Tilley .2167
    2. Jack Neary .2223
    3. Ted Heindselman .2250
    4. Brian Robinson .2472
    5. Lee Hachigian .2505

SG. Bob Hawkins .176 (shot with a .22-100 short)

The LV Grand was won by our NBRSA President Jack Neary, who shot very well all weekend. It was a pleasure shooting next to him, getting to watch the master at work. Here are your top 5 in the Light Varmint Grand:

    LV Grand
    1. Jack Neary .2235
    2. Lacy Tilley .2281
    3. Lee Hachigian .2348
    4. DeWayne Wood .2397
    5. Victor Potts .2411

Lee Hachigian picked up the coveted 2-Gun win with a .2315, showing us why he's one of the best. It looks like Lee is in top form after a good performance at WWCCA the weekend prior to this one. Congratulations Lee!

Here is the top 10 in the 2-Gun:

    2-Gun
    1. Lee Hachigian .2315

    10. Mike Johnson .2890

A big thanks to the target scorer, target crew and all the Shelby County members who volunteered their time and efforts to make this such a well run match. I'd also like to thank Match Director, John Petteruti, for his match preparations and for running a great event.

I hope to see you all back in October for the fall finale.

    Brian

Shout out to new shooter Matt Spies...

Not only was this Matt's very first benchrest match (registered or non), he had less than 20 rounds fired with a benchrest rifle before arriving Saturday.

Here's a picture of him behind his new rifle and the final two groups of his first aggregate.
