Jackie, as always I really enjoy your info and photos that show what machinist work entails when working in a shipyard.
I did some work on ship shafting and rudders in the shop but never touched...

This is a FN 30-06 that belonged to my father. It's a Mauser action with a High Standard chrome lined barrel. These were sold by Sears' which is where he purchased it...
i Know Jackie used calipers enough to be comfortable with them on close measurements. I never was unless there was plenty of material to remove and I would check against a ruler. On a bore a 1 to 12...

Al, I made this for the chuck key. It's right at eye level and I don't have to look for it.

My most accurate factory rifle is a Remington 722 .222. I glassed the action with a kit from Herter's and adjusted the trigger. That's all it took to shoot a .560 5 shot group from a bench.

The important thing is you enjoyed your project and how it turned out. Nothing else really matters. Opinions are like a..holes.....everybody has one.

I'm sure your wife wouldn't mind one in your front yard,or maybe out back somewhere. Some of these engines were mounted on narrow gage flatcars for logging. Not sure how that assembly would pass...
Al, it took a while to figure out what rules what...where is my cup?.
Jackie, I would never question your ability as a true craftsman, but after looking at your latest photo for a couple of days...I don't like the brass. To me it doesn't fit the rest of it. What was...

Back in the day they used Steam Donkeys for logging in the Pacific Northwest. As their use declined they were often just left out in the woods. I was told it would be hard to find one with a...
Butch, the other publication is from Prentice-Hall, first published in 1945 until 1980 something. They are still available online pretty cheap. Ignore the bidding sites if you decide to look for one....

When I was buying tools and getting started, the salesman said I would need the Machinery Handbook as it was the Bible. I was hesitant because of the price but went ahead with the...
I haven't seen that attachment until now...pretty trick. I have a Starret196B with a wiggler I think those are pretty common.

I bet Jackie has stuff you would only find in an antique store.
Fred, I really hear you, really hear you. Hang in there.

This is a simple bearing scraper that came to me in an unusual way. It belonged to an elderly German mechanic who had a garage/gas station in a remote mining town that was still hanging on...
This mike was handed down to me when I was working at the shipyard. At the time I wasn't aware of Miller Falls making precision instruments. The Navy had a calibration program where they would check...

One of the things I found recently was this old timing card and I decided to post it.
The book by Don Francisco was my bible when it came to small block Chevy...
Yes....I think they dropped the MoMax tool bits. Read where T-15 is just as good but I wouldn't know. I also looked for Chicago Latrobe and ended up on a site that sells used or new in the box. That...

We pretty much share the same assortment of American branded tools. I have one odd ball Snap On.....a lonely socket adaptor.
How big is the Taco stand?

Epig ?
I was thinking the Mo-Max lathe tools might be worth something ( had thoughts of buying a new varmint rifle ) so I went on line to check things out and found prices all over the place. The stubbys...
